What mods DO NOT affect your warranty
 

Last weekend, I send my 8 for servicing at my PI's authorised workshop, Jackspeed.

Those of you whom have been there will notice that they have quite a bit of
mod accessories. when i saw them , I told myself "Ho Sei Liao!".

Then when I saw the lady boss, I flooded her with questions until she ran away..LOL!

I asked her "what mods will not affect my warranty".
Her reply to me was quite general "as long as do not touch the engine".
So I asked her, what about the mods that I see here and she said it's OK!

So I went into specifics and this is what I get.

Mods allowed and/or displayed -
CAI, Open pod filter, exhaust system, suspension system,
sway bars and undercarriage braces, grounding & v. stabilser, plug cables
and AT cooler.

Mods not allowed - Turbo, SC, Flywheel, BO valve, Piggyback ECU.

Of course i missed out on many other mods but she run away leh!
So I veri automatic one and didn't bug her further coz i scared later
she use "Knife brand" cooking oil in my engine!

But in terms of experience in Rotary engines,
i think got better workshops lah.
Coz when I asked them about using Engine oil meant for rotary engine,
they gimme the look like "Are you from Mars?"

engine oil wise, u can stick to the good old cheap mineral oil, shell helix super 20W50, or go for oil meant specially for rotary. However these oil dun come cheap. I'm using RE AMEMIYA rotary oil on my ride.

as for mods.... everyone has their own definitions... my take is, juz mod and dun worry.... if u have to worry, then resist ur urge...... :D :D

most mods u mentioned up there, its oredi done on my car, and Mazda Motors has not mentioned anything abt voiding my warranty... in any case, i'm not gg back there again. Their servicing leave much to be desired.....

talking about mods, the last time there was some interest on cat back exhaust
and some distributors were bringing in to be tested if we met the min. qty, like
HKS and Fujitsubo?

then there was also talk on which exhaust, preferbly for auto and manual.
was there any outcome on that?

Mods being legal is important but the objective here is about not voiding our warranty.

For example, if one was to install a non approved spoiler, or switching the
cat for a straight pipe, it's not legal but it does not affect the warranty.

Personally for me, warranty is important becoz mine is 3 years and very extensive, right up to electronic parts.

for me when i fix my 6 defi gauges & 4pot brembo, after which when I head for my 1st servicing with MM, apparently the servicing supervisor say that they voiding my warranty and I challenge them to dare to void the warranty.
To me, I change the brake to enhance braking to avoid situation that might lead to accident.
I fix up all the defi to monitor the health of the car engine. So, I will know if something is going to happen and I could get it reticfy immediately.
As long I do not touch the ECU, i told them just do your normal servicing due, and dun need to question so much. :D :cool:

Most agent will always insist any change apart from stock can void warranty. This is the typical kiasu mentality and if u are worried, then refrain from changing anything until warranty over. Even changing air filter can void warranty hehehee (real stupid right!)

Exactly. Sg dam bullshit. What also cannot do. Sometimes even servicing elsewhere voids your warranty. This kind of clause is illegal in other countries.

Worse case scenario: They can totally refuse to repair your vehicle when you mod anything or even because you did not service with them. And idiotically, its legal for this to happen in SG. If anyone thinks i am bull-shitting, this is what Kah motors told me when i wanted to service elsewhere and a service advisor told me my warranty may be voided because i installed a VAFC which involves hacking the wiring harness. Anyway i have already sold my car and got the beautiful 8 .

IMO, i do what ever i want that imo will not damage my car. Anyway the warranty is for 1 year only for PIs. Usually nothing serious will happen within a year. Anything that may spoil will usually spoil within a month of getting the car in the first place.

to put it bluntly to them "shut the fxxx up and do yr work!" LOL!

actually it's veri true about the 1 year warranty lor.
because everything is brand new, chances are nothing will give problem.
so the warranty is as good as none. problems normally crop up from 4 to 5th year.

I guess official distributors are more sticky about warranties and PIs and their authorised workshops are more flexible.

But I'm just curious about PI like Garage R, how much can you mod(of course by them lah) w/o voiding the warranty?

GR same. No PI or agent will allow indiscriminate modding (to protect themselves). Even for GR, u are not supposed to mod anyway u want but being a 'modder' they are more reasonable. Still u mod at ur own risk unless u get them to mod for u! :D

I think they will only be reasonable if you mod through them. Lets say. 2 cars from GR; one mod through them and another elsewhere. Chances are they will void the warranty of the one that sent business elsewhere.

If they say they will void warranty of anyone who mod whether throught them or not. Ask them will they do a 30k engine swap for you and still void your warranty? Then again they can still void your warranty after modding for you and still get away with it; SG has very lax car laws. And we next to none consumer rights like in other developed countries.

I am just saying this in general and not any particular PI. Maybe i read too much and saw too much.
