Wash, Clay bar-ed, Polish, Seal and Wax Session in June

Dear all bros n sis,

This topic of washing n waxing in a group has been lingering for the longest time but has not been put into action yet. I have spoken to Andrew (naughty boy) becos we are the DIY hardcores who took the pain to shine our own cars, and he is quite onz abt it.

anyway, here goes: i propose the activity on a saturday in June, any saturday most comfortable for a good turnout.

Wash:
Those interested to come for wash only, without polish, seal or wax are most welcomed. This will take the shortest time as well. I believe most bro/sis who will come will fall into this category

Clay bar:
This step is together with wash to remove debris stuck on ur car, however once clayed, u need to polish n seal.

Polish:
This is the most common step to shining and maintaining ur car. But juz polish alone will not do. We are there to share ideas if u do turn up. Dun worry abt wat brand of polish u use.

Seal:
This is a must for gloss n shine to stay. The best is to coat with many layers over a few days or weeks to let ur car stay in tip top condition. (Mine only stop at this stage for the moment, will hop over to waxing after seeing andrew's car)

Wax:
This is optional but is best recommended for those who wants their car to have the utmost gloss and shine. See andrew's black rx8 for reference. HIs shine n gloss is out of this world!!!

The most basic steps to complete a exterior grooming job is to wash, polish and seal. Clay bar-ing and waxing are optional.

I wld suggest those who are interested in the polishing/sealing/waxing stage to do the "before" step 1st before coming, to minimise time taken to do up the process. However, if u want to start all over, i'm am most willing to help, meaning i will help u wash, claybar, polish, seal and wax.

wat i mean by "before" step:
if coming for polishing - wash ur car before coming.
if coming for sealing - polish before coming (of cos, washing shld have been done oredi)
coming for waxing - pls seal ur car (assuming polish n wash are completed)

this will minimise time taken and can render help to those who needs the full grooming. Me of cos will volunteer to help those who are into grooming their own cars.... exterior only hor....

Those interested to juz come n see men and women in action (wet actions, i mean..... :D), oso ok. All are welcome to share pointers and tips please.

As for products wise, i'm currently using this USA-made polish n sealant. This product is used in the competitions n exhibitions in USA. Have been trying out for weeks and the results are marvellous. Will intro this brand to u guys during this session. Its rather pricey, but then, wich good products are cheap...... Its non abrasive, unlike some car polish and can remove the stains on our headlights.... will let u guys into more info when the session commence........

those interested pls state down ur preferred saturday in June. (Or sundays? reason y its not on sundays its becos this is a "family day" therefore its not touched. If u guys wan a sunday, i'm fine as well but make sure its day time so that can enjoy the shine after all the efforts to make it shine)

VENUE: i suggest some multi storey carpark (MSCP) as they are sheltered, water are available, and there are many lots. U guys make the call. Any parts of Singapore, i'm ok with it. Pls give suggestions on the venue.

PLS, contributions!!!!!!!

not ZAINO, bro...... long heard abt the amazing results of zaino and klasse.....

trying for abt 2 weeks oredi.... after many days of rain, the gloss and seal still there...... and rub ur fingers down the paintwork.... SMOOTH!

but of cos, the gloss lose out to the authentic wax job... no sealant gloss can win any wax gloss.......

3. Naughty Boy : There to see how clay bar is done - better than washing by hand :D no cuts

coupe07 05-15-2005 10:46 AM

Claybar is actually "that piece of plastercine" used to "scrub" away those hard-to-remove debris on the surface of our car. Try running ur bare hands through ur paint work. If there are rough surface but cannot be seen with ur naked eyes, then these may only be removed with claybar.

To use the claybar, the step is:
1. Use dish-washing liquid (yes, i did not type wrongly. Use ma-ma lemon) to strip off all wax, sealant and polish, off ur car.
2. hose off until ur car is clear of dish-washing liquid.
3. wipe clean.
4. start the polishing, sealant and wax procedure.

Which is why in my 1st post, i stated once claybar-ed, u need to polish n seal cos since previous wax is removed, ur car is very "bare-naked".

Why dish-washing liquid to wash car???? Dish-washing is the most effective remover of wax, sealant and polish. Alternatives will be our hair shampoo and body foam. However, dish-washing detergent is the cheapest and most effective... hence the choice.

To prove this point, try this: after every round of waxing or sealing or polishing, try soaking ur dirty cloth with dish washing liquid. u will see all the wax stucked on ur cloth removed after a while. Dish-washing liquid is the number one enemy of wax.

If one car is willing to be a demo-car, i dun mind help doing up his car (of cos i need plenty of help oso lah...). Dun worry, i'm not those "how siao" guy "who dunno then try to act noe" kind..... will guarantee u ur car will nvr feel the same once u finish the complete process of wash-clarbar-polish-seal-wax.

i have done mine up til sealant and is satisfied but still lack this wax process to add to my satisfaction.

again, i'm sharing my knowledge of DIY grooming as i have done far too many trials and errors on my car (previous and current ride) and all the above are to the best of my knowledge. I have also used many brands of polish and sealant. If u guys need to know more, i'm more than happy to share share....... :o :o i nvr trust my car in the hands of outside groomers... call me a scrooge, a miser... but no other groomers except myself for my ride...... :o

so far only 3 guys are keen. If response is still lukewarm then will be cancelled. :(

Hi Coupe

Saw the website you posted, amazed by the demo video. I've done a teflon coating on my ride (3mendouz shine) can I still put the sealer gloss? Or do I have to strip off my coating and sealant first?

coupe07 05-25-2005 07:46 PM

since u have a teflon coating, not advisable to to add anything more on it.....

reason being, u add anything on, the teflon might go off in the process.... therefore 3mendous shine might juz void off the 12month re-shine or warranty.

those with glare, tough seal, other brands, not recommended to DIY polish cos it is detrimental to their coating. That is why they always advise u to either wash with water only or use their brand of car shampoo, which is very very mild.

However, no offence intended to those who did the once a yr polish, the gloss and shine cannot outdo regular seal n wax, if done correctly.....

somemore DIY can give a good workout..... :D :D

He is tinking lah, but the cost after converting to SGD very high, so may not attract buyers. Most likely just sell what he has on-hand now..... and think about it after dat. If you guys interested, let me noe and i get back to you. Tink he is throwing in a microfibre cloth FOC.

one thing simple about this product is only 2 steps: POLISH and SEAL. dats it.... only 2 bottles niah.....
