There's already a layer of rubberish coating under our rx8 ,
So I believe that there is not need for any more tuff kote

KJ238 02-17-2006 06:42 AM

Sorry coupe.. dun mean to offend u.. just a bit of a joke :(

Anyways, reason i said this is because most modern cars don't require tough coat treatment anymore as it come from factories pre-treated (pls correct me if i am wrong)...

CoupeM 02-17-2006 07:00 AM

If u happen to hit any Humps it will remove the Coating on the 2 main undercarriage metal beams .

I had been doing some careful inspection under the car and saw that some part of the coating where being remove aspecial the real part.

Yes, I believed I'm few decide older. From my memory, I think KJ238 is correct, those old generation car did not come with any under carriage coating, so in order to protect your car, ppl normal send the car for Tuff Kote (This is the most famous brand). Tuff Kote also provide some kind of warranty for rush, but you need to go back every year to perform the inspection and re-coat.
Now a day, car manufacturer normally perform the under carriage coating, so it is not necessary to go for Tuff Kote.

I think most cars got anti-rust proofing but not all cars. Usually the higher ends one has it. So i believe the 8 is relatively higher end. So should not have problems.

IMO most cars should not rust at least for 3 to 5 years; thats the period of most warranties. So the car manufacturers would have calculated that at least90% of car will not have problems a warranty covers in that period.

Rumboo 02-17-2006 11:30 AM

I think even normal family cars will have galvanised bodies, according to SE in MM, so no need tuff kote anymore. Anyway, any impact that would scrape off the rubberised coating would also scrape off the tuff kote layer, so no diff.
