Most car have this steering lock function. It's common. but is the vibration come from the engine or you feel it on the steering wheel?? Do you warm up the car before driving it??

so what the problem we here to share, what your workshop did that cost 1k to solve the problem, must be seriuos.

Neon 03-19-2006 03:45 AM

Hmm...simi taichi ah Dave?

Daverx 03-19-2006 09:32 PM

initially would cost more than 2k.....2F2F had it fixed earlier which was more then 2k. was told the mounting i think & some other mechanical fault eg relay etc....

The cost went down recently n was told about 1k plus...n can be fixed by TG....

same same problem...expecting more.... haha

M-ster 03-20-2006 10:15 AM

maybe can arrange for bulk discount if all were to arrange to go togther. :)

Bro I had tis problem b4 and it got worst till power steering was gone !

However I had it fixed for less than $100 ! It all boils dwn to the power steering relay as ours are electric driven ! Replaced the relay at about $45
and labour to identify and repair the electrical points.

The wrong earthing of ur wires also contribute to tis issue bcoz when we start our engine, electrical pulses are suppose to reach the relay to activate power steering, if the relay fail to get the required signal it will stall for a while !

However urs could be more serious issue, dun mind sharing wif me ! I m worried mine would reach ur stage of problem too, PM me can ?

Neon 03-20-2006 11:28 PM

Hmm, i hope mine is the stoopid relay problem. Will post soon whether i paid 100$ or 10 times more!

Thanks Zav Bro!

Emperor 03-20-2006 11:34 PM

Sometimes it pays not to listen everything at face value. Either you pay $100 or $1000k for similar repairs.

The salesman who sold me my 8 also said the car sale and repair industry is one of the dirtiest.

Daverx 03-21-2006 02:29 AM

Yup, it may be the relay problem (we hope so)... so before any replacement do test the relay 1st by replacing an ok one....iif not then too bad liao....

keep our fingers crossed :)

RENESIS8 03-27-2006 04:19 AM

Wow.... I got this same problem 2 months ago right after I changed my battery. At first, I tough something need to be reset or what.

The problem goes like : When the car's engine is cold, especially in the morning; when you steer the wheel to the right, everything is fine. But when you steer the wheel to the left, it goes jerky & vibrating ...................

I have to make the sterring wheel lock to lock 3 to 4 times, then the problem will go away..................

Hopefully is just a mater of the relay problem..............

Neon 03-27-2006 06:09 AM

Sam, told u to drive the car into singapore river liao lor......

hehe....

RENESIS8 03-27-2006 10:04 PM

Hahaha.......... Your car oor mine........??????????

Yez..all this happened after when your battery is flat or battery changed. So I suspect that something need to be reset too coz why only occured only after battery changed??!!??!!?? puzzled!

Er28 05-10-2006 11:00 AM

worst

my steering getting worst anyone know where or which workshops can solve this problem.

RENESIS8 05-11-2006 02:26 AM

Went down to Garge R to install the ENDLESS brake pad & Steel braided hose. Mentioned to Wong about this problem & according to him, Most of the Type S has got this problem. All U have to do is to change the Steeling senosr and reset the
ECU. The whole process takes about 2 to 3 hours and the charges is about S$100 plus.

snkpkp 05-14-2006 01:58 PM

Have the same problem in my 2003 6MT 8. There is a torque sensor which is built in to the motor. Are you talking about the steering sensor? Someone also mentioned about the relay. where is this relay located? I ordered a power harness as suggested by many, but may be i need to change the relay or sensor. any idea where is the relay?

snkpkp 05-16-2006 04:15 PM

helloooooooo anyone in Asia solved this problem?????????

Neon 05-16-2006 09:43 PM

snkpkp 05-17-2006 05:06 AM

The so call steering sensor is actually termed a ' Torque Sensor' in Mazda's inventory list .

I also have the same problem. probably the relay u mentioned earlier. Also noticed that the car used so many electrical charged parts, it dries up the batteries. i changed like 4 batteries over the last 2 years [Die hard batteries]. the worst part is no one seem to be able to solve the problem. and now since the Mazda dealers went bankrupt, i kinda given up hope.

snkpkp 05-23-2006 11:33 AM

the torque sensor is an integral part of the steering gear (motor) and cannot be purchases separately if i am not wrong.

davester 08-25-2006 11:31 PM

Hi guys,

Just found this thread because I'm now havin the same stilly steering problem... so need you guys help and input.

Just wanted to know whats the final assessment of this problem??

Do we have to just change the sensor & reset ECU or change relay?? Have the other guys in this forum with this problem fixed it yet and if so what really needs to be changed?

Thanks

Dave

:wiggle:
The only 1 thing that I'm 100% sure to fix the problem is by change the entire sterring rack (it comes with the motor attached to it).

I've change that and it solve the problem.

Heard about people mentioning changing the torque sensor but nobody has one that in Singpaore yet....correct me if I am wrong.

2F2F formerly!!

sgrenesis 08-28-2006 01:44 AM

dude whats the damage on that.

I think when i hear the price i will sweat sia.

derrick (low rider) problem is solved........ at quite a low cost... he is still observing now. If successful, will let u noe....

davester 08-28-2006 03:29 AM

Another question to you guys...

How potentially dangerous is this silly problem and how fast does the problem progress and get worse??

Am I supposed to avoid driving altogether ideally or just pray and hope for the best when driving and just take it real slow....

Dave

Fabulous 08-28-2006 05:37 AM

Good to hear Derrick has found a lower cost solution. I guess it is to replace the torque sensor.

BTW, the entire steering rack cost about $1700-$1800, not including labour. Luckily mine change during warranty (3yrs) period.

Note: Initially, it vibrate when engine is very cold, then also virbate when engine is slightly warm (after parked for 2-3 hrs).

sgrenesis 08-28-2006 06:46 AM

Thanks for the update dude.

Actually it depends on luck. virus has this problem but hasnt gotten any worse but as for me its quite bad. Was exiting rochor and turning to suntec. The whole steering wheel jerked bout 5 times while turning, luckily its only five.

You just need to take it slow especially in corners thats all and try not to speed. Dont worry i am still driving mine everyday, love the car too much to let it stay in the parking lot for 1 day. :D

davester 08-28-2006 06:11 PM

Funny how this problem started...just out of the blue one day when startin up...

Its also wierd why when warmed up that the problem goes away... if there was some electrical or mechanical fault that shouldnt be the case at all...

The darn thing is my cars a PI hance no more warranty liao..shucks....just hope the problem doesn't get worse for my case too... currently is just a mild shudder in the am start up..

Dave

many cars have come, and almost all have different solutions. Some change the relay, problem solved. Some doesnt. Serious case is change the entire steering rack. Confirm solve problem. If u r lucky, change the sensor, it may solve. If it does not, big face u have to change the steering rack.

Er28 09-27-2006 10:12 PM
