Slow off the mark...

Hi all,

notice that our 8s is abit slow off the mark... pretty weak low end torque... anyway to improve it besides the turbo/super charge?

Mine's 4AT anyway... :D

Pls dun ask me to sell my car and buy a 6MT hor... :p

No no.... don't have to sell your car. :p

Your 19" rims are too heavy.... remove and put on a 14" and you can feel the difference. :D :D :D

I think its because yours a 4AT. Usually theres a lag when launching a AT car. In my experience, the fastest time you can get with a AT car is to REV high in Neutral then dump the gear to D, release accelerator about 3/4 and when the revs build up again, floor it.

Do this and you should get good times but it really strains the torque converter and transmission.

A better way is to floor it 3/4 suddenly and then totally when the revs build, all while in D or 1( without dumping from N to D)

I believe its because the ECU and Torque converter is made in a way that prevent sudden high loads; thus the way to get round it is to floor 3/4.

Its a matter of experimenting of the timings of the steps involved.

I have not tried it on the 8 yet as my car is yet delayed to this weekend. But i have quite a fair bit of experience with AT cars.

A warning though, i totally thrashed my EK civic's transmission doing standing starts and racing. The damage was $7k. IMO ATs must be treated properly and gently.

Want to look SWEE with 19" rims, then you have to take a hit on performance liao. Unless maybe you got 19" magnesiums that are lighter than 17"s. Unsprung weight (thanks ND) affects performance a LOT more than weight sitting on your springs.

Magnesium alloys?!?!?! Dat should take up about a few months of my pay... :(

Then unfortunately you have to suffer a performance penalty since your 19" rims add to the unsprung weight of the vehicle. The price of being "hiao"...

Taka, you think so too eh? IMO 17" looks a bit small tho. I'd stick to 18"s but what are some of the lighter 18"s around? Any recommendations?
