Should I get the 8?

Here in Malaysia there's only one authorised Mazda dealer and the sad thing is they won't be bringing in the 8 and that means I have to buy the 8 from an importer which doesnt offer warranty, technical support, etc etc. Is it safe for me to get the 8 from these importers despite all the problems like CEL and flooding?

RobDickinson 09-17-2004 04:26 AM

Honestly , no.

I wouldnt own an RX8 wothout at least a decent dealer support.

On the year I've owned mine I've had the CAT and exhaust replaced as well as the clutch and the ECU update.

A bit of a risk buying one without warranty since the 8's packed with loads of electronics and as we all know, electrical items almost always develop some sort of problem.

Apart from that, seeing as the only Mazda dealer in Malaysia doesn't sell the 8, will they be able to give you all the necessary mechanical knowledge and parts back up?

Razpewton 09-17-2004 05:37 AM

In that situation, there is absolutely NO WAY I'd ever buy a car without a warranty AND dealership support.

NO WAY!

At the moment the only mazda dealer wont give technical support as far as I know. I just pray that they will eventually change their minds and bring in the 8 the end of this year the latest. I do know a couple of rotary experts in Malaysia but I'm too sure if they've handled enough 8s to do major repairs. Money isn't a real issue.

You might get some more useful information and responses in the Far East/Asia forum -- there are several folks there who have bought 8's from importers. I'm moving this thread there.

Singapore import and have received full training on the 8. They are right next door to you. Trouble is, they don't want to work on grey imports either. That doesn't mean you can't ask them nicely! :-)

Zyran. NO!

Unless u live in JB and dont mind coming down south often.....Lots of Cash too...:D

zyran 09-17-2004 12:00 PM

But you see I (my dad) don't mind paying for repairs and shit. Lots of things happened to his past cars which costs bombs to repair and he doesn't seem to mind. Anyways I'm still gonna wait and see if Cycle & Carriage is gonna bring it in.

doesnt really matter much since its half price once you cross the border.

Vamp 09-18-2004 03:10 PM

Well, if $ is not a concern, buy 2 RX-8 (with the cheap Malaysia price) and use 1 as spare parts/spare....

;)

Hahahaha great offer.. To be a little realistic though, I'm planning to take up mechanical engineering (last year in highschool now) and followed by automotive engineering. Maybe then I could be a rotor master muahaha.. well, after 5 years.
