Guys, just needed an opinion....

i've been offered a black RX8...around 68k.....its registered in March 05...owner says its a 6 speed auto....

is it possible to be a 6 spd auto??thot they were only released in sg in the year 06, 07? owner told me the car's doing 8Km/L but its on omg 19" wheels....sibei dodgy sia....

price seems too good to be true as well....

im not well versed in prices and all so could you guys give me some feedback...i havent seen the car yet as everything was told to me off the phone...

i'm not sure if i've actually found a good deal or i'm walking into a tok cai tao situation...

omv is around 40K and coe is 17K

very noob ques....how to tell from the gear box if its 4spd or 6 spd AT....my 1st car...paiseh

lemon, wat color u getting??? best is to check ard make sure the car not into serious accident before.

at mar 05 theres no 6 spd auto yet.. i just sold my car dec 05 for 89k. its with accidend too... but is been repaired. 6spd mt

Wah 8km/L very hard to believe. My 16 inch wheels 2007 new car max out 7km/L. Just to share my exp, i wanted to buy 2nd hand too because is more affordable but after testing and searching in this forum i think buy a new one is much more safer. Rotary Engine is not a normal engine if got problem, you go for repair it will cost more then a new one.

True..especially nowadays i see like those 3-4yrs old car, 1 by 1 engine piang. makes me kinda worried.

better start saving $$ for a new engine...i intend to drive my 8 for 10yrs. :smoker:

i getting 8.5 on avg, cos i take expressway.... seriously... 68k a bit the cheap leh.... better check properly.

Maybe the seller meant to say 6MT instead of AT becaust 6ATs didn't appear until late '06 to early '07. It may explain the slightly better FC though it largely depends on your style of driving as I'm sure some ATs can also get 8km/l. However, the low price is a bit suspicious especially since the OMV is on the high side. Not that you should not buy, but just be extra cautious.

i smsed him, he told me 6 spd...how do i check if the car has been involved in an accident cos if i'm gonna ask him, for sure he aint gonna tell me if the car kena langa b4

im gonna test drive in amk in the evening tmr...i wonder if i should bring the car for like a med checkup with monster garage to make sure the internals are all fine...monster seems to be the garage to go to for 8s and i guess if they're that good, they shld be able to check to see if everythings ok...how much would it set me back by?

i dun mind paying for the check with MG...rather then later buy aledi regret due to the number of problems...

send to LTA for inspection? but i'm worried LTA can only tell me if car kena acci b4 nia...but they might not be well versed enuff to let me know if the rx8's internals are all fine (engine, steering etc)...correct me if i'm wrong guys...btw, does anyone have a number i can call to reach someone in monster?

not too sure wat rim that is...is it good or lightweight? have not heard of the brand b4...thinking of changing to 18" magline forged rims

btw, 4 spd auto means the auto transmission gearbox only has, Drive, Reverse, Park n Neutral or wat? confusing sia btw the 4 spd n 6spd

4 spd means 4 forward gears... (1, 2, 3 & 4)
6 spd means 6 forward gears... (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6)
Reverse gear is a given.

Note: I'm not trying to be sarcastic.. just keeping it simple for the TS.

it should be the old 4AT,
the 6ATs were only around late 06s, earliest think also after Aug06

oh, u can tell also by the gear stick. the 4ATs are all black.
the 6AT gearstick got a silver portion to it. but of cos gearstick can change also..hehe

theres an additional oil cooler for 6 AT. If the car is facing you, look at the foglight recess area on the right and u should see a oil cooler. 4AT oni got 1 of those and its on the left. Plus, correct me if i'm wrong, 6AT when driven, ur speedo cluster (the left one) should reflect the num '6' when its above 60kmph. ?

Looks dodgy so approach with caution. Do your homework and if it's a genuinely good deal, then by all means get it. The "Only Used For 3 Month" as stated in the ad is a bit disconcerting though. Warrants more investigation.

hey sqflyer...wat do i have to look out for tmr?a summary would be very helpful or shld i just suggest going to mg for a check...

so if it turns out to be a 4AT....should not be that good a deal imo...i read in different threads about quite a few problems with the old 4ATs....

its definetely not 6AT, cuz the earliest is around sept.

guys just an update...its sold even b4 i had a look at the car.....the guy didnt even have the decency to inform me that the car viewing and testing is off..had to msg him in the morning to ask him for confirmation b4 he replied to tell me its sold and awaiting loan approval...n to think i pushed aside a dinner appt for this...

in any case..thanks to all for your inputs. i fully appreciate it. ive fallen for the 8 since i 1st laid eyes on her 5 years ago....its a very big disappointment

hey lemonjelliee, sorry to hear that man. can understand how you feel. i waited 5 long years before i could finally own an 8 too.

on the bright side, as everyone feels here, the deals a little too good to be true. just hang on a little more and save up for a better offer which is sure to come.

Anyway fyi, my 6AT does 410km with 52L on 19". And iirc, the first 6AT that came into SG was in mid Nov 06.
