RX8 Rims offset
Hi,
Anyone can advise on the MAXIMUM Offset for 18 inch rims to be in line with the fender? So that the car will look fierce!
And where can we get the small lip spoiler that is glued to the boot?

Here is what a Lexus owner explains :p
Regarding the MAXIMUM size you can have. If you want it to look fierce but not rediculous. I think +30 is the max for a 8.5" wide rim.
Here is the offset calculator.

And you can get a ruler and see how much extra it will stick out from the stock tyre :p

Offset is the distance between the centre of the rim and the plate. As seen in the pic. The more positive the value, the more stick out you are. Of course, the width of rim will stick the tyre out even more.
To a certain point, the tyre will rub the fender guard on the outside. So you should keep within that range.
8.5 inch with +35 offset will extend the outside of the tyre 21mm more laterally. Stock is 8 inch with +50 offset (which sits 0.25" plus +15 mm ~= 21mm further in).

Good posts Taka and your absolutely right. My 18x8.5 aftermarkets have +30 offset which is exactly at the edge of the front fender and does look fierce IMO, certainly when compared to the stocks. When I saw the fit and looks, I was hooked.

I have to add. There is a slight variant in the offset among designs. You see the offset is measure from the center of the rim to the central plate (where the nuts are). You see if the central plate is design to be further in the rim... then their offset will be less positive.
I hope you understand while I am trying to find picture to illustrate.

Hi,
Thanks for all the help everyone. But I think I saw in this forum , someone suggest 18 x 8 (max offset is +42). Don't you all think its too big?
I am either looking at VOLKS RACING 18 x 8 or it rather come in 18 x 8.5 ...hmmm i wonder which is the one.

Stock is +50 (recessed). +42 is slightly less recessed than +50. +30 is almost flushed with the car with tyres slighly outside already.
In other words, +42 does not mean it jut out more than +30. Its the other way round.

I think +40 is more than OK.
I will prefer a 8.5" wheel if you plan to use wider tyres. 245/40 is the best fit to 225/45, and actually 225 is slightly too small for the 8" but 245 will be the limit for a 8".
So I think 8.5" will be perfect and will be flexible for your later tyre choices.
Don't quote me but I think the people have 18x8.5 +38 in Japan and it is believe to be the size suggested by Rays Engineering.

hi guys, some time lat year jan, before i collected my auto 8, i was doing some search as well. as the auto 8 came with 16 inch as std so i wanted to change to 18 and post some question here in the forums. wat i found out was, as some bro here already said, different brands of rim ,the offset is also slightly diff....anyway i went ard....and most shop have these magazines....each rims sizes and offset also in these magazines and there will be a recommmended size and offsets for each size and for the cars....i found out that for Volks Racing, the Mazdaspeed recommendations for the set i bought are front 18X8 +38 and rear is 18X9 +45.....
the thing i am trying to say here is that for the same car,different rims hv different offset...also remember the tyre size as some brands of tyres is difficult to find a certain width and profile.....

I am confused here. According to TireRack, the + offset is "The hub mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel." This would seem to mean the larger the + offset, the more the wheel would "stick out" to the sides. Yet everything else in this thread indicates the exact opposite... i.e. the stock offset being +50 while the ones for wider wheels and more sticking out is +35. According to the information posted on tirerack and the way it reads, one would think +50 would stick out more than +35 (of course you need to adjust for wheel width also).

teebee, if the hub mounting surface "moves" towards the front (face) of the wheel... it also means the wheel sits deeper into the wheel well. Therefore the higher the offset, it actually means the wheel will stick IN (not out) of the wheel well and conversely, the lower the offset, the more the wheel will stick OUT. Hope this helps...

Jnc 18x9 +30 offset
I'm considering changing from the stock rx8 rims and tires and going with the jnc 18x9 inch rims with a +30 offset. Would I need to lower the car first or would it be fine the way it is? Any advice would be much appreciated thank you guys

18x10.5 +43 with 265/35-18 tires fits all four corners inside and outside without any modifications
here are the equivalent outer wheel lip positions for different width wheels relative to that:
10.0” +40
9.5” +37
9.0” +34
8.5” +30
8.0” +27
again, these will result in a fairly flush look without having to modify the fender lips for the wheels. However depending on what size tire is used and the resulting sidewall bulge there may be some rub and most likely at the rear fender lip that sticks inward about 1/2” or so. Which is the easiest to address by rolling the inner lip flat. If you don’t care about modifying the fender lips then wheel offset can be decreased further.
