RX8 Problematic or not???????
Hi guys,
I am thinking of replacing my is200 with a RX8. Is this car problematic?? How bad is the comsumption? I am interested in the Auto 210hp version from PI (is it wise??) Pls advice!! Cheers Wil :p |
Is this car problematic??
The problem is this is not the common piston engine. The problem is this is the only engine that can let u rev up to 10,000 rpm, which no other piston engine car can boast of. The problem is u will find it very very hard to resist revving the car.The prolem is this car is definitely a babe magnet. "ARE THEY ACTUALLY PROBLEMS???" :D :D How bad is the comsumption? Mine average still ard 380 to 400km per 56litres of petrol works out to ard 6.8 - 7km/l. Trying very hard not to rev hard and 60% expressway, 40% city. This car fuel is most efficient on expressway. Once city driving, u will see this car drinks petrol like nvr before. I am interested in the Auto 210hp version from PI (is it wise??) this question is best answered by the auto drivers. Mine is a manual 6sp (type S) and i feel stick shift on a sports car is more fun to drive (my opinion only). Many bros here drive an auto becos of their spouse or partner wanting an auto car. U will be surprised that there is quite a fair share of auto rx8 drivers over here So to change or not to change???? As a rx8 driver, of cos my advice is CHANGE!!! :D :D few points for u to consider: - Does ur work require to ferry pple around? - Do you always need to drive around? - Is your petrol subsidise by company? - Can you resist the temptation to mod ur 8 cos there are a lot of after market parts? - Are u prepared to sacrifice the comfort u have been enjoying on ur current luxury ride for a more sportier and stiffer springs? - Do you like speed with control? |
Hi TFE,
Good Choice! Well at least you'r looking at an 8 rather than something else:) Well, the RX8 has been out 2 over years now, most of the little glitches has been more or less fixed. As you would already have known, the rotary needs a little more TLC, and one of the things that needs the most attention is the engine oil. With piston, one can use synthetic and run for a year or 10k (which ever come first) but for the rotary, one is advise to have the oil change every 6 months or 5k (which ever come first). Other than that, it very much like looking after any other cars. PC has been discussed before too, mainly around 6-8km/l base on individual driving style and habits. I drive a manual too, sentiment same as coupe07. Only advise is to look out for a good PI with good support when purchasing your auto 8. Go thru the earlier threads here in the asia forum, there're quite a few threads about which PIs to look out for. Happy shopping! |
TEF,
I did the same in replacing my beloved IS200. YOU WILL LOVE IT! |
Good posts Bros, well said. Never having owned an IS200, but lots of other cars, I can testify that the 8 is the most "obsessive" car I've ever owned. It's not just a car, it's a statement of your lifestyle and an extension of your inner self. Woah, a little too expressive eh? :D :D

Hi
go get the Shinka! (see my Shinka thread) |

Gen... agreed, I've always said that the 8 is a lifestyle car... no regrets whatsoever
|
My 10 days worth of 10 cents.
Every time I get in my 8, it just never fails to put a :) on my face. It is a statement, a lifestyle and yet the fun of a sporty drive. After a hard day at work this is the car you want to be in. The 8 makes you look forward to the trip to work on a Monday morning. On weekends.......RX8 is the only thing you want to be in! |
Amen bros ... amen ...
Coming one and a half years and it still feels as good as the first time I drove it. ;) |
Actually its quite problematic....hehe
Oops... |
Hey Neon, I think you probably created most of your own problems. Why don't you list them and try to identify cause? Here's mine :
1) Broken sun visor hinge. Weak mounting plastic. Replaced free 2) Brake pads "glued" to rotor after 1 week's layup. Took couple weeks of cleaning and usage to return to normal. Lesson learnt : never wash the car and wet the brakes if you are not going to drive it after the wash. Practically stock (see sig), 19 months/20,000 km, 3xHKS RE and 1xTRUST RE rotary synthetic oil changes. By far one of the best record of the 10 continental and Japanese cars I have owned. -Ringer- |
another prob is rx8 is a eye catcher. everywhere u go, more heads will turn to look at the car, and the driver........
being eye catching leads to another prob. pple may scratch ur car unintentionally (while trying to peek into ur car) or intentionally (jealous @sses)........ so more problems for u hor..... :) |

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the replies!!! I will be hunting for a good PI to buy from, hope to join you guys in meet up soon. cheers |
Oh yea...just a warning....if you want a really fast car...don't get the 8. You would be much better off with the STI or Evo.
But if you want great handling and hours of driving fun and a lot of attention, then the 8 is the best choice. I test drove the STI, Evo 8 MR and the Integra Type R but it was the 8 that captured my heart :) |

I second that :) And with WRX prices so low, you're going to see them everywhere, at every turning and every junction.
|
its oredi everywhere, bro...... everyday travel on roads, smelly smelly oso can see 5 or 6 WRXes running ard, in all sorts of colours with similar bodykits.......
somemore except integra, both STI n EVO are saloon cars, with monster performance.... the emphasis is on SALOON CARS...... whereas the rx8 is a coupe sports car...... definitely more babe magnet than those 2...... |

Ask them for freebies....secret... 1. recall (how fast can the PI do the recall or if they are bothered at all or not) if the factory issue one 2. Problems - when prob developed, how willing are they to help u out. When it comes to buying, most PI will give u top service but when prob develop, it may not be so. Cheers |
