Hi I just got my RX8....and my first tank only last me 300km!!!! :scratchhe
Brudder here can advise or share wats the highest km they can achieve with a full tank? :worship: |
Got about 9 plus km/l going Genting. One off occurence. Usually get about 8.2 to 8.4 thereabouts when i drive smoothly. But usually i get 7.5 plus minus.
Worse was 3.9. But that was due when i was tuning my car. |
You mean you can hit 420km full tank??? How ah? any mods?
Any cool mods or tuning to intro?? I am itchy to do something! |

My AT 8 pump up FULL TANK (SHELL PETROL) always hit around 280-300km then light is up.... Is alot depand on your driving style and maybe my wheel front 18 x 8 x 225 and rear wheel 18 x 9 x 245 My BMW 318i can hit 480km (also 60liters gas tank). Our 8 a good drinker... :beer05: cheers! MDC |
i get about 420-430km per tank on ave. about 70%highway 30% normal road. Hit redline 2-3times per tank. shift gears around 3.5k

Is it going to be damaging to the car engine? |
yah
better relax for the first 1000 km if not, engine will not last i know the temptation is great unless you looking at changing car after 1 to 2 yrs time. good luck to your buyer then hehe |
go for a new sets of plugs, sport plug cable and oil cooler it helps.
i had my MS oil cooler installed, plug cable installed, give me 50 km more per tank. i suspect my plug is ruined order and waiting for the new set. i give 350km per tank now. |
300km per tank? Thats really bad...u must be pushing ur car really hard...
not very advisable to rev it above 4k rpm b4 the run in period? But anyway, my best fc was 520km per tank on my 2nd tank of petrol...car is totally stock except for the hks circle earth... |
the boy! Where to get good plugs and oil cooler??
520km per tank on 2nd tank what you mean? |

well i get between 400 - 420km from full tank until 2 notches above the empty mark. Not sure what the fuel consumption works out to be (heh unless sqflyer volunteers a figure), but i am from the "driving miss daisy" school of driving. Except for weekends when i become a graduate of the LoveBug School of Driving (if you are old enuff to remember Herbie) and let the engine do its stuff late at night + early in the morning on the way to church.
Unlike sqflyer (no offence, but you got the techno gizmo thingee), i run out of guts faster than i run out of fuel cos i don't want to push the 8 to the nearest petrol station and be featured on STOMP (seeing as how they wont mask my face and/or blur my licence plate). |
FYI: You generally have about 5-7 litres left after the very last notch of the tank's indicator. This is one dislike I have about the 8: the bloody fuel light comes on way too (unnecessarily) early. I am at the 420km range when it comes on. I have another 100+kms left before I start to think or sweat a bit for a gas station. I don't find spirited driving affecting the FC that much -- rolling along in 2nd gear traffic I find sucks up more gas that the ocassional chance to redline esp here in S'pore.

300km on one tank? i think you forgot to run in yr car liao.
on yr 3rd to 4th tank u should be doing around 450km especially with everything new, the car run in and after 1000km servicing. are u averaging above 3K - 4K rpm to get 300km mileage? try for one tank, driving between 2K to 2.5 K rpm at all times, but most of the time keeping between 2K to 2.2K rpm yr mileage should improve to at least 400km. good training for discipline! but 300km not the worst lah, got bro here doing 280km on a tank. But then again, RX8 owners are not really looking to be fuel efficient to the extreme, just being practical. RX8 owners are about being happy and to be happy is about redlining 7.5K - 8.5K rpm to feel the sweet power. :ylsuper: If not we would have gotten for example Chevolet Optra 1.6L, 60 litres tank x 12km per litre = 720km or Honda FIT which I heard is 17km per litre. |
agree with blackeight totally!
i have not reach 450km per tank until now, the best i can get is 7.4km/l (trying so hard not to exceed 3.5k rpm) and it's not fun at all! :nono: |

on the upside, my friendly neghbourhood petrol company SPC has dropped their prices by an insignificant hair. now i can afford to increase my rpm by 2 revolutions...hehehehe
|
hi
from your experiments, what is the best rpm to shift gears 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc for best fuel efficient? thx. |
You should have no problem getting about 420 km from a full tank with about 5 litres left in it. Shifting at the range of 3500+ to 5000 is about the most efficient. The thing that makes the most difference is using the cruise control and avoid short trips. I can always go 30km further if I take very long trips (40 to 50 km+)
