THE NEED FOR SPEED brudders.........

three2eight 11-24-2003 07:40 PM

Hi,

I just did a 190km/h just a couple of days ago and I don't recall having any speed card or rev card installed...

Neon 11-24-2003 10:16 PM

???? 6MT JDM 247HP model????

Neon 11-24-2003 10:17 PM

Maybe i will go try too....

VENUE : Lim Chu Kang

DATE : TODAY

Neon 11-25-2003 06:05 AM

OK. CHeers...

Mr Rabbit 11-27-2003 08:06 PM

Hi Neon.

I may be mistaken, but I heard that none of the RXs are limited - EXCEPT the flagship 6-speed model. Top speed limited, that is...

I thought all cars in Japan are speed limited to 180kmh due to their regulations? My old Lancer Mivec had this as well (goodness knows why since it was from C&C but it was the first batch).

Mr Rabbit 11-27-2003 09:19 PM

Hi Fab 8. Don't think so.

three2eight did 190. I did 200.

Maybe u wanna try??? :P

Fab 8 11-27-2003 09:54 PM

Heh heh...must head up north for that then :D

Mr Rabbit 11-27-2003 09:58 PM

Good luck & enjy urself!!!

Live up to ur nick & do it FABulously!

Sorry, couldn't resist!

Neon 11-29-2003 01:08 AM

FXXK i better be doing that soon man. 5300RPM at 6 gives 190.. nice... wonder wads 8500....:D

p7&8 11-30-2003 07:24 PM

Wooha. First long ride over the Weekend.& Thrashed the engine pretty good.. took her to 190 on 5th after redlining her on 3rd..got rid of this frikin tailgater in the process as well..Happy rotoring..

dru8999 11-30-2003 09:01 PM

Hi Fab8, just read yr post regaring ur previous Mivec being the first batch fr C&C. Guess what? Mine was too. Did u attend the defensive driving clinic conducted at Raffles Marina by Jeff Beaumont n Rod Anders. I was there when one young inexperienced punk lost control n smashed 2 cars. N were u at the drive-away event to Port Dickson held in Dec 1997. Well, I had so much fun and is really looking forward to a drive- away involving the RX8s.

Fab 8 11-30-2003 10:05 PM

Hi Dru8999, what a coincidence! Mine was a manual, silver colour. Nah, didn't take part in the driving clinic nor the drive to Port Dickson.

P7&8...190 eh? So no speed limiter on the 6MT too?? :D Cool!

Fab 8 02-01-2004 10:00 PM

After a long time, finally got around to trying out the speed limiter - yup, as expected, hit 187 and that was it.

The highway curved round, and there were the cops waving cars to the side...for whatever reason, I was waved through! Maybe the camera was much further back! :D

M-ster 02-02-2004 02:05 AM

How does the car feels at that speed? Got to ask this, as I've not got mine yet. Last time tried 170 on the miata, it feels floating, I guess that car is just too light.

Fab 8 02-02-2004 03:24 AM

Very stable, and just getting into its stride! No floatiness, not jittery or nervous, and didn't feel like it was that fast when the limiter hit! :D

hotpot 05-10-2004 03:29 AM

My friends were teasing me, telling me that I've only got a 180kmh car. I took it for a spin last night to see whether it is in fact speed limited.
Alas, as suspected, I felt a little jerk at 187kmh as the speed limiter cuts in. Damn it. I had a nice long stretch of road still ahead of me. The only consolation is that the car accelerates to 187 kmh very quickly.

So has anyone yet found out how to bypass the speed limiter?
I have found this about the MX-5. Do you think it would be the same procedure for the RX8?

RX8_666 05-10-2004 09:39 PM

Neon dont waste your time and the risk for being caught speeding. All JDM cars come with speed limiter. I oready tried so many times. Sian oready lah.
Btw Rsm cant do the speed cut for our car. Only possibility is the ecu. Told u so many times. Die heart lah.

Speed Limiter override

Hi Hotpot,

The clara net explanation seems to be for old cars with analogue speedo. I am not sure if it is that simple - you need to override the speed triggered fuel cut off. At any rate, her example analogue display needs to be changed for one that can display a higher max speed.

For the RX8 you definitely need to reprogram the ECU. In Singapore I know of 2 sources that could do that. And in the process might as well do a power/torque remap. They are 0bit by Sato san and Lester of GarageR. I am still contamplating that. Don't want to be tempted into driving too wildly and endanger anyone.

BTW, I used to live in Mauritius for a couple of years in the late 80s/early 90s. Always enjoyed stretching my rented Reggie A82 to the limit on the twisty roads of Mauritius. It's a small world and if you can identify me please send me a PM.

Thanks a lot for the response Ringer. I would appreciate if I could get some feedback from owners that have had their ECUs reprogrammed to override the speed limiter. The power/torque remap also sounds interesting. In what way is it remapped? If I come to Singapore can I just bring in the ECU for reprogramming, or can they only do it on the car? I don't know much about these things.

Ringer 05-11-2004 03:19 AM

Hotpot,

I don't think anyone in Singapore has done that yet. The ECU controls many parameters. Ex-factory engine/ECU as supplied is a compromise between performance and fuel economy, emission and engine longevity. Aftermarket is up to you and also depends on what else you are upgrading e.g. exhaust, intake, turbo??!!. Sato san's 0bit offers a switch selectable higher power and torque or economy. GarageR's totally custom reprogram to your desire and per your other engine upgrades. In the process the speed limiter code will be reprogrammed/bypassed.

I am still a hands-off kind of guy. I imagine you need to present your car to the workshop to do this job. Anyone reading this knows?

PS I think you get my drift about contemplating longer. If you walk into a mod shop, wow the sky's the limit. I don't want to jump at it, I'm a bit too old for that.

hotpot 05-11-2004 06:51 AM

Ringer, thanks for the reply.
I'm not into modding at all. I usually like my cars stock.
All I want is to get rid of the flippin' speed limiter (so my friends stop making fun of me :) ).
Why have a 247hp car when you can only use 125hp in sixth gear?
Anyone else got any views on this?

Neon 05-11-2004 08:02 AM

Hmmm, didnt know Garage R has started doing ECU already....

Will check it out durin my next servicing there......

SIan another lump sum for the HKS oil.....hehe
