Review: Greddy Oil Pan

continuing my adventures with cooling mods, just done up the aluminium greddy oil pan at MG. Larger cooling area, cooling fins etc - you can google up the specs.

At least to me, this mod is rather subjective - and a lot of factors play into the mix.

First, because the pan is almost 2x larger than stock, holds much more oil and has a larger cooling surface - some characteristics of thermal inertia do come into play:
- oil temps to reach 90+ from cold start takes much longer than normal. but once oil temps go above 95, then other factors kick in.

On a hot road surface ie noon or afternoon, WOT, temp fluctuation between 98-105 very quickly. it goes up to 105 very quickly, and goes down to 98 just as quick.

In the mornings and evenings, temps do not exceed 95 WOT, and average 88-92 for my style of normal cruising (WOT 25% of the time, avg speed 120kmh)

So far, my water temps still have not exceeded 98 no matter how hard i loot, regardless of time of day.

If forced to give a 1 liner, i would say that this mod permanently decreases your oil temps by about 2deg, but be aware of thermal inertia - it's a good and bad.

This mod will be great in lowering overall temps of NA cars.
For FI and track cars, this mod helps but cannot be the end all - you will still need an additional oil cooler

So in summary, after the fan mod and greddy oil pan:

Avg WOT Original: Oil/Water 115/110
Avg WOT After: Oil/Water 98/95
