Rear Lights Flooded With Water!

Hard to believe, but both my rear lights have been flooded with water! It looks like a god damn fish tank minus the fishes. I didn't know a premium Japanese car like the 8 would have such QC issues. I actually brought it to the paint work place to have the water removed once, but during the heavy rain season last month, water seeped in again and it's fogged up with water trapped at the bottom. Does anyone have the same problem? My technician suggested that i replace it with new ones...anyone has any clue where i could get either USED/RECOND or NEW back lights in Malaysia? Thank guys.

hey lennon! yeah, been traveling quite a fair bit lately, sorry for missing all the meetings...marcus drilled a hole at the bottom?? hahhaah! but i don't think that would solve the fogging issue...man, this rx8 is cheap man, worst than proton!

yes, reason, when it is hot, the seal between the cover and lamp assembly opens up.
when these tiny gaps formed, water/ moist sip in, they dunno how to get out... ke ke..

drilling hole do helps... or open up the tail lamp... re-seal it with silicon (hi-temp)...

no point changing the lamp... maybe the new ones oso gappy...

I had the same problem, I just re-sealed them with clear seal and the problem was gone.

just had the same problem on mine. took out both lights and dried them in the aircon room over night. put them back with a windscreen sealant around the surface mating to the body of the car. no problem since.

Hey thanks for all the suggestions fellow RXers! I'll get my mechanic to follow your recommendations....

Haven't followed the forum for some time now, but i'm happy to find so many good samaritans here as always.

Did any of you change your spark plugs yet? It cost me a whopping RM 200+ each....is that the price?

voyager18 03-27-2007 09:10 PM

Good suggestion, but if you seal the lights with silicon, how do you change the light bulbs should they fuse if the lights are going to be stuck to the car...?

my mechanic put a sponge, got the lights cleared, but after the rain during the weekend, it's still fogged and some water seeped in still....argggghh!!!
