Pls advise on rims (technical)

Hi all! :) Me looking at rims! :D

Would be grateful for advice on the following, in the context of 19" rims:
1. Will the speedo be affected and if so how? I.e. Will the speedo read lower or higher?
2. Will torque be affected?
3. Will the consumption be worse?
4. What would a good brand of tyre be?
5. Anything else me should look out for?

Me never understood PCD, offset, etc. so pls forgive me for me simple approach :o :p What other cars can fit the rims (which would fit our RX)?

Thanx all - and wish me luck! :D

mayb tis shld b able to gv u a rough guide on ur 1st q
http://miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
2-3)torque,yes,it'l b affected,slower,in fact.if u r gona use wider rubbers,FC is gona go dn too,but u xchg it 4 better road holdin...
4)rubbers,dpends on ur budget...fr korean's kumho to japan's advan,ur 'willingness' to spent plays a part;u r tokin bout 19s here.i wud suggest st115 fr falken.a balance on performance & noise.
5)hmmm...if u hv plans to upgrade ur calipers, remem to go 4 a wider offset;>43 to play safe.pcd will b standard;114.3/5,no worries on tat...

Hi

Agree with bro Cuscorex. Just a bit more info.

1. Speedo is tune to stock rim/tyre size. It depends on the rolling diameter so if the upgraded rim/tyre is the same as stock, then speedo will not differ or else it will either read faster or slower than actual depending on the new rolling diameter comapred to the stock.

2. Torque I assume u mean pick up at the wheels. Bigger rims/wider tyres usually mean slower pick up which is why some people downsize their wheels when they track. 19" looks good though.

3. For branded tyres (top of range), 19" tyres shld be at least $350.
My friend just bot the Japan Bridgestone 18" S02 at $330 per piece.

4. Consider overall weight for the package. U will be surprised how heavy the tyres are so expect running cost to increase. If u 'know' what after mkt brakes u are likely to go for in the future, this will help in selecting the right offset. Diff rim design with the same offset can have diff result clearing big brake calipers!

So far not many with 19" rims if I am not wrong.

Cheers

Well it depends on your offset. The best offset for RX8 is 40 front & back.

In many cases yes, but not always. Have a look at an earlier thread https://www.rx8club.com/far-east-asia-38/rx8-rims-offset-58888/

Notice Taka's comment: "I have to add. There is a slight variant in the offset among designs. You see the offset is measure from the center of the rim to the central plate (where the nuts are). You see if the central plate is design to be further in the rim... then their offset will be less positive."

So it really depends on the dimensions of the rim, need to take the measurements to be sure. My LE37's are only +30 offset, but perfectly line up with the edge of the fenders.

lennon 07-04-2005 08:33 AM

Noted. My Mazdaspeed rims fit well with lower suspension.

Look here my friend... if and when the new car comes and it's negative offset... get spacers, if positive offset, get a widebody kit.

So simple.

:D

sqflyer 07-04-2005 11:06 AM

Anything to take note about using spacers?

bro, FRP is Fibre Reinforced Plastic. Very good material used by the japanese to fabricate their bodykit.
