OEM 18"rims looking for new owner
 

Hi all. I have just paid the deposit for a new 8 and should be collecting the car sometime in June. However, as it is for my wife's daily usage, I need to sacrifice looks & stability for comfort & better mileage. I intend to change the OEM 18" rims fitted with 225/45/18 Bridgestone Potenza 040 tires to 16" rims.

Anybody thinking of changing their rims, name me a price..... Before I drive it off the showroom.

You will not be able to fit 16"on your car - won't clear the brakes (I'm assuming your car is from MM or it is a Type S since it has 18"OEM). Smallest you can go is 17".

Is RM8,000 fair market value?

Yes it is a Type S from Naza Malaysia. Thanks for the advise. I have seen some 16" designs that I believe will fit. If it can't, I will settle for 17".

16 inch rim wont fit in your car since yours is type S. If it's type E, you'll have better luck. Are you from KL anyway?? If do, pls contact Marcus or "the shortshortman". We have a meeting on every friday night.

Hmmm.. What is the difference - Type S / E? The SA told me it was Type S but he could be wrong. Where do you all meet? Would be great to meet up with all of you.

Bring your car along to the meeting on this friday about 10pm, at Giant Paramount PJ. We'll see whether 16 inch rim can be fit in your car. Usually bigger rim needs bigger brake either for safety or looks.

Hi Lennon, I'm from Singapore and driving a JDM Type E. You are right on the brakes for Type E, they are indeed smaller. But if Rimmam had specified 18" rims on his ride at the time of order, then his brakes n suspension would be the same as with any Type S if they are indented straight from the factory. This is based on my own experience as I ordered my ride with that option straight from factory. Cheers!

Opss, my mistake!! But heard some type E can go 400km plus. My type S only 330km, far worst than my BMW. But still like IT! :p

E can go 400km plus? Maybe if all driving done along the NE highway. Definitely not in Singapore. I think I may hit my worse ever tankful this week. Nearing a quarter tank now and have done only 208km. Virtually all city driving this week and encountering jams everywhere I go.

Funny. Posted a reply yesterday but it seems to have disappeared! Anyway, I replied that I will only get my car in mid-June if all goes well.

I have also checked with a Bridgestone dealer who mentioned that they don't sell Potenza 225/45/18. Only 225/40/18 and only by special order! Retails for Ringgit Malaysia $1,500-$1,600.

Has anybody changed their 18" tires? Which brands did you change to and how much did it cost?

the original Bridgestone RE040 in my experience is the worst. Dont ever think of using back that same tyre. I uses Yokohama AD07 cause its softer than Michelin, less noisy that Bridgestone. It's semi-slick tyre for road using, even i can feel it works very well on my BMW.
