Hi!
I see a number of newbie threads. so thought that I should come introduce myself too. Just got my pearl white rx8 yesterday. Gave up my red celica for that
Not that rx8 isn't a cool car, just that the celica was actually sufficient for me plus more fuel efficient but my dad wanted to switch cars
Though I've heard so much about the rx8's high FC.. didn't think it'll be so bad till I tried it for myself.. are there any ways to improve the fuel efficiency? I see a lot of ads on fuel saving devices and stuff like that on car mags. But kinda skeptical as to the extent to which they'd work. I'm driving an auto btw.
Thanks & cheers

Hi there dollygrrrl and welcome. Don't bother with those fuel saving devices. The only one that will work is your right foot! Some of the auto guys here get pretty decent mileage, if memory serves me correctly (at least from an RX-8 point of view...)

THe longer you can drive at any given time, the better the fuel economy is. Lots of short trips kill it, but longer drips (even driving fast) make it better. Worst I get is 15, best I get is 22. MPG that is, I dont know Kmg or however you denote that.

Screw gas mileage
Welcome to the board...my gf has a 00 celica and I have an RX-8, so I can compare them pretty well. The celica gets twice the mileage (easy) and has more trunk space, but a smaller back seat and the interior is not as nice. If you keep the revs down when you drive (like under 4k rpm's) you will get 17-20 mpg around town.
Good choice of white btw...we need more pics of white 8's

seems like you dun have a good impression of the 8 ...
erm... maybe ya should take alook at the bible and see what you can do ...
as for the 8's FC, you wont get it worse than me...
i drive a manual and get 240-280 per full tank...
if ya like fast pick up then ya should wait for a torque converter or something liddat for the 8 as i dun think there are much mods for the auto...
hopefully, you will like the 8 as much as we do one day...
jmho
P.S : if ya need a club polo tee then contact me, i have girl's edition too...

Its in my nature to worry abt the consumption even though my parents have told me not to bother.. i'm sure the pick up for this car is more than suffient for me, it's just that i don't use it coz i'm just too concerned abt FC
rotaries are meant to be driven ....
the more you try to save, the more fuel you waste...
just drive as per normal....
new car is always like this..wait till after your first servicing and you will see a massive improvement unless your car is like mine....
and there is no way you can get the same fc as a celica...
different engine, different category.. cannot compare...
road tax alot of difference also

hi dollygrrrl, u r finally here after i post several times in MCS to invite u over.....
here reply fast fast hor??
anyway, as to ur question..... FC has always been the ultimate concern of all drivers... but trading them off with speed, killer looks and handling..... erm.... juz dun go well....
as for rx8's FC, the best i have read thus far is ard 10km/l. i dunno how they do it, but im sure its very hard to achieve in spore roads.
1. rx8 FC will be best if u r 95% expressway, 5% city driving. This is definitely not achievable by spore roads standard. FC affected.
2. Running in ur car, FC definitely no good. wait til it hits 10,000km, then it will stabilise down. FC affected again.
3. Engine oil. This cld be myth, cld be fact, but some swear by certain make of engine oil can result in better fuel savings but since ur engine is new, stick to the good old mineral oil. FC maybe affected.
4. being heavy footed affects ur FC. a good test will be "loooting" all the way for 1st round of petrol, super light footed on 2nd round of petrol. the difference is very obvious. but new car, do the necessary running in before whacking.
as for rotary engine, it is meant to be high-revving... this makes the car fun to drive... juz ask naughty boy and he will tell u how to make the most beautiful sound out of a rx8....... he is the man!!! :D
dun restrict urself.... juz drive as u always drive to enjoy the car. this car is meant to be petrol kiosk's best fren, so......... nvr take the fun out of driving a rotary engined car.....
as for bodykits, some rx8 have been fitted with bodykits. However if u wan to be exclusive, mr adam ask me to psycho u to go for autoexe's bodykit. Perfect for a pearl white rx8! if u fit that, u will be the one n only in spore....
Since urs is auto, i tink voltage stabiliser and some grounding cables shld suffice as ur 1st mod. Many felt that transmission is smoother, pickup is better after installing. FC wise, some say can save fuel some say no diff... but i doubt that few cables and that electronic gadget make save fuel (my opinion only)......... its good for transmission though.... there might be a test between 2 auto cars on the next few gatherings to determine whether there is any difference... u may wan to come n take a look.
manual cars, pls dun bother with grounding or voltage stabiliser. definitely no use. Y i said that? becos i had done it on mine, so manual pple, pls dun waste ur money n time. Luckily mine is a gift......
we all have many many things to share ard..... but i tink i tok too much liao....... paiseh paiseh...

dun be too worried abt the FC. the best thing is this car is a head turner, superb handling, high revving (which car can boast of revving to 9k rpm???) so trade it off with poor FC, can balance off....
since urs is a 2nd hand, then running in is not a prob. there are many things u can try... but dun bother abt those fuel saving gadgets.... they are more of a gimmick than being true.....
if really fuel saving, the inventor will be the richest man in the world by now..... most of the time, its more psychological......

I was down in town today. parked at goodwood. saw a red rx8 with a tatty bear (i think in front). Kept wondering if u was u somehow.. 3 rx8s in one carpark all facing each other... guess rx8s are becoming pretty common too

Cannavaro's FC is funky... bro, get it checked and rechecked coz 240-280 is damn ridiculous for a manual considering you don't push your car that hard. Better CFCM at MM coz you are paying for the warranty. I get at least 400-450 per tank of 95 petrol. While driving on expressways, stick to the 8's cruise speeds where the air/fuel is the leanest and avoid the rich air/fuel speeds.
