Mobile Speed Cameras

The TP's mobile speed camera was spotted along Frankel Avenue towards East Coast Rd just before the Caltex Station. Was tipped off by my brother at around 0930 and passed there myself 10 mins later and confirmed it. The interesting thing is that while I was crawling towards the camera at 50km/h, I held up a long convoy of vehicles with an Altis attempting to overtake me. After passing the camera and stopping side by side at the lights near the end of Frankel Avenue near East Coast Road, he actually wind down his window and said Thank You. So all u brudders out there in the East, esp Neon and Sam, watch out! Cheers!

Gd Job!

sqflyer 09-10-2004 03:53 AM

Just a question, anyone in this forum actually "challenged" a speeding charge?

My friend received a speeding letter from TP but he don't recall even being on that road so he thinks might have been one of his workers who uses his car regularly to run errands. Wondering if anyone here actually went to see the speeding photo before. Is it taken from the front or rear? Can see who the driver is or not? I know in Australia, the speed cameras will actually flash you in the face and you can go see the photo later to ID the driver.

Mockngbrd 09-10-2004 05:35 AM

forgot to add in tampines road behind bedok reservoir, that nice stretch..saw a few LTA/TP rdblocks there

jack826 09-10-2004 10:13 AM

yes

sqflyer from what i know yes u can challenge or u can get u're friend to ask the guy who drove his car to own up!

sgrenesis 09-10-2004 11:01 AM

sometimes with the cameras they do cause some concern if the person in front were to suddenly jam brake.

i think i can only add 1 more to the west side.

-to holland village from orchard/farrer - road block

I'm pretty sure you can challenge the speeding charge, but has anyone done it before? I'm just wondering if they photograph you from the front and visibly showing the driver's face or just shoot you in the ass. Also is there any charge (money wise) to see the photo?

My friend asked... obviously nobody wants to own up. 8(

jack826 09-13-2004 04:17 AM

hmmm

with the advance technology that the tp brought in i tik they can show u who the driver is but i tik u're friends friend is a bit irresponsible!

RX-8ster 09-13-2004 08:10 AM

I'm going to Ubi tomorrow to look at the picture. They caught me 31-40 kmh over the limit of 80 on PIE towards Jurong, but I'm pretty sure that the fastest I've gone on that stretch is 105.

Called them up and they told me the picture is not a stationary picture, i.e. it's probably one of the new motorbike mounted speed cameras. I wonder who audits the speedo on the motorbikes, as in order to determine how fast I'm going, they would need a point of reference and that would be the speedo on the bike. If the wheels on the bike are too large, that would lead to a slower reported speed on the bike's speedo which would make it seem like I was driving too fast.

I'll keep you guys posted.

jack826 09-13-2004 08:34 AM

RX-8ster good luck and hope to hear good news ya! Drive safe!

Hey RX-8ster, all the best and do remember to keep us posted. I'm very interested to know what you can find out.

Personally, I don't think a "not a stationary picture" necessarily means it was taken from a motorbike mounted speed camera. In fact, I don't even think motorbikes have speed cameras mounted but I could be wrong. As far as I know, the motorbikes only have speed radars and if they clock you speeding, they will immediately chase you down and ticket you there and then. Again, I could be wrong. Enlighten us when after your visit.

RX-8ster 09-14-2004 07:43 AM

Visited TP. You must furnish the driver details before they'll let you appeal. Apparently. mobile camera means that it can be a portable camera, one of those new stealth cameras they have that are portable (mobile). Asked to see picture and they said must write appeal letter, so I wrote one on the spot (they have a form for this). They will send me official summons and fix appt to view pic, cannot view on the spot. Viewing pic is FOC, but if you want one mailed to you, it costs $54.

Bottomline, if you kena something like this, write appeal letter together with submission of driver details by mail to save a trip down to TP. Wait for summons and go have a look at picture.

I'm skeptical about the acquisition of my car by the camera if they said I was going so fast. The officer said that with this new tech, they can zero in on a specific car instead of a group of cars. I'll have to see the pic to believe it.

I think they're just picking on sports cars. Why can't they go after the lorries that drive at 90kmh which is 40 over the limit? Have you guys seen how dangerous those are? Especially when the trucks they use to move earth from construction sites are empty. Those are definitely more dangerous as they aren't designed for speed!

Mockngbrd 09-14-2004 11:29 AM

wow...$54 for ur very own photo
