Mazda Rotary Oil???

Is this a new engine oil? Anyone tried it? Price reasonable.

the dealerships here in the US sell 'rotary oil' as well. I don't believe it to be any different then conventional oil.

Just use whatever you've been using. Castrol GTX 5-20 is very popular here.

Have been using it....at least better than shell mineral. Think its good enough and cheap to use

Brettus 10-01-2007 01:31 PM

been using that stuff since i've owned mine - 60,000 kms . Been thinking lately about switching to synthetic because the price of it is about the same .

Yep ,Castrol 5-20 is what I use.

MM is now recommending it and am using it since my last service. cant feel any different tho. bought a 4l can for top up. under $80, i think.

MM used to sell them at $69 before the GST increased....now is slightly over $72

By doing oil change at 5000km interval, i don think using synthetic oil makes any economic sense :)

I totally agree with you. But in the first place, getting a RX8 also don't makes any economic sense. Hehehe...

My main concern is not able to get the engine oil when you need to top up (imagine low oil pressure lits up at midnight). Now I'm using Shell mineral, so it is quite convenient and it comes in small bottles. If you buy oil that comes in a tin, most lightly you gotta buy another tin for spare.

Ha ha true also.....I just send in my car for servicing at MM today only to realise they actually change oil on 10k interval if you use their Golden SM oil. But still need to service every 5k interval but no oil change til the 10k.

Totally agree with you on the topping up part thats why i standby extra Golden SM oil in my boot in a small 1L container :)

When i was on shell mineral that time, I used to frequent shell kiosk just to buy the 0.5L shell oil to top up which is very troublesome

Sorry if its a stupid question, newbie here. Just wondering if its possible to change engine oil by yourself? Cuz i heard its good to change it every 5k, or is it just open the cap and top up?

Normal Servicing every 5K:
5K service / oil + filter change
10K service / oil change + some checks
15K service / oil + filter change
20K service / oil change + some checks
something like these (in general)...

Engine Oil Top Up:
check dip stick regularly... (weekly / bi-weekly / monthly)
see the consumption, then top up accordingly....
for long distance road trip / track... bring along addition oil for top up purpose
