Kindly help with choice [Singapore]
HI all...
Just need your honest opinion. If given a chance to choose for a new car, which is better? RX8 or WRX. Basically I need to know the aftermarket for both cars in Singapore and as well as economically, which is best. Also, If i were to buy a bucket seat, is it possible to fix in RX8 as i could see that most of the Rx8 owners keep their original ones. For the Trust TI is it full cat back or just the muffler? Last but not least DO TAKE NOTE.. I intend to take red plate Hope you could help me out. Thanks bros. |
Depend on wat u wan bro? For the wrx, is cheap. Parts are readily available. For $2k (change to vf22, fuel pump and flash tune) you can get a 320bhp monster.
For rx8, the 2k will prob just get u an exhaust and a 3bhp gain but in terms of look, the rx8 is definitely the winner. Bucket seat can be fitted on both cars just tat our seats are so nice and comfy and unique so we dun bother to change them. Trust ti for rx8 is a titanium catback. |
haha...u r same as me considering both of them. But luckily, I've finally touched down with my final decission...6MT JDM Pearl White RX8!!! :evil_laug but haven't place my order yet.
Although WRX is easily mod up to 350bhp or even 400bhp, but the looks of RX8 is really killing!!!:) And don't think i'll drive it to the extend of power limit of RX8 for the first few years. Even i feel not enough by then, there is always an option of FI it. I'll get the JDM model from PI bcoz cheaper and higher power. And JDM model was declared as 1310kg, compared to 1390kg from MM.

weight is lighter because you dont have
1) electric seats 2) sun roof 3) headlight washers 4) Auto levelling headlights(maybe 06/07 have now, 04model dun have) 5) extra oil cooler 6) 4 more airbags |
If you considering performance for street use... go for the WRX... If you want to get the Rx8... You must understand that its a NA... The aftermarket for the Rx8 is as good as any other car out there... just that it isnt worth it if you are going to turbo or super charge it and risk killing the engine... 2 main reasons why i choose the Rx8... First i love rotary engines and the Rx series... and secondly its an FR... Call me to choose between Rx8 and Evo... I take the Rx8 anytime... If you going for brunt strength... STi and Evos still a better choice... In my own opinion... I already ordered my 6MT... So faster indent your car... we can run-in together :D
Cheers... Newbie Rx8 Driver. |

RX8 doesnt fully utilize the rebate, still need to pay $50. |
My frank advice?
Dont listen to any one of us :) Arrange for a test drive for both vehicles (I did that) and see for yourself which suits you more. Then work out the sums and see if that suits your current situation. Both cars will have a market for resale but I suspect that the WRX would have the edge as you would tend to see more WRX's on the road rather than RX8's. Simple rules of demand and supply would apply here. But end of the day, whatever car ya buy in Singapore - you will lose money anyway. So rather get something that you will enjoy instead! Good luck dude! |
I think u shld juz buy the car u like best...afterall, u will be the one driving the car,
so y not juz buy the one u like n live with no regrets? Both cars have its plus points, so its really difficult to compare the both? Besides, ur in the rx8 forum, I think most here wld support the 8...hahaha... :mdrmed: For the aftermarket scene of both cars, the wrx is of coz a wiser choice wif after market product readily available n inexpensive... For the seats...I dunno abt the others but I love my seats...or at least until someone comes up wif a bucket seat that has a rotary crest, I'm not even considering changing it... Actually, I drive an opc as well...1 word of advice...it can be troublesome to do modification to the car...I had to get approval from LTA b4 I can change my bumper n install a ram air duct...so, if ur going to modify anything that requires u to remove the front or rear bumper, u will have to get approval from LTA which will take a few days plus the trouble of applying for the approval...Its not worth the hassle in my opinion...try getting the normal plate if possible... :) |

Many thanks guys for your help. :D:
I'll certainly take ure advices into consideration. Seriously, I'm tempted to have a RX8 as i found it to be more economical if im thinking long term becoz of the insurance and the road tax. For a WRX, the road tax could go up to $1500 for a year!! Might as well save all that extra cash for modding of RX8. :ylsuper: |
But the fuel consumption for rx8 is more then the wrx so in the end it evens out.
|
I guess this is what u are looking for.
The body/looks of an Rx8 with a STI/EVO enging with a Fuel Consumption of a Vios/Jazz. ................ Until the above model is out u will have to give and take. Got Good looks but with out power or Got power but with out Good Looks |
Morgan..you describe my dreamcar so well. Kekekeke but is only a DREAM

I want a Rx8 looks with 300HP and Runs on rechargable batteries. I seen it on one of the Automobile TV programs when I was overseas. Its a SportsCar that can accelarate to 100km/h in 6 secs and one single charge can last for at least 280-300++ km. |
Wow! Now I wan tat also. Lolx

http://www.teslamotors.com/index.php?js_enabled=1 YES its the one. I dont think any dealer will be bring it in.. US$92000. Its more than double the price of Rx8 in USA. So I guess it will be even more expensive than a Lotus Elise in Spore |
Price aside, T-Rex can foresee problems with charging the Tesla's battery in HDB or condo carparks. Furthermore, the service centers are all in the US. Lastly, would LTA approve it?
|
Moreover, I wonder how much will the roadtax be, since the engine capacity is 0.
|
LTA will charge based on the vehicle's power output... ala Lexux RX400H.
|
I think this is a easy decision to make... I would probably have a harder time figuring out between a STi and a Evo.
If you do not foresee yourself tinkering with engines and complicated modifications, just happy to drive the car as it is. Then RX8 is your best choice. If you are into chasing high horsepower, engine modifications and much more, just go for the Rex. |
