Japanese Engineer Talk

Sorry guys. I am trying to reply to Fab8 but could'nt find reply button. Hence had to start a new thread:

I took down a few notes of items that are of interest to me :

Oil

- Swears by synthetic oil for rotary engine. Dino oil burns and carbonizes when injected into the combustion chamber and he’d seen engine interiors scratched and destroyed that way.
- Go as high viscosity as possible. For racing, 10W60. Other than places with freezing cold morning starts, don’t need to go to 0W or 5W, use 10W40 or 10W50. Preferably Castrol. “If you want to win a race, use Castrol”. Why? Because the molecules are all equal sized providing maximum slipperyness

Petrol

- In Japan premium unleaded is RON100. All premium and sports cars are spec’d for RON100. RON 98 or lower will produce lower power, lower efficiency, don’t save on pennies.
- Swears by Shell VPower and Mobil Synergy – burns faster, more intense.
- His piggyback chip can optimize on RON98 (since we do not have RON100)

Running-in

- 1000 km oil and oil filter change
- 3000 – 10000 km depending, for engine then transmission then rest of drive train, etc to fully bed-in and open up, then you may go racing

Piggyback chip

- His “0Bit” @S$950 std, S$1350 certain customizations
- Attains, “releases” rated output (250PS), better mapping right across
- Choice of 2 toggle switch positions eg. Sport/Normal, RON 98/ RON 95 optimization
- Overrides our JDM 180kph speed limit

Stabilizer

- To reduce body roll change to stiffer stabilizers rather than springs
- Target 2-3 deg roll
- Needs some body roll or car will go off the road

Other attendees may have more information or correct me if I am wrong. Hope this helps.

Hey thanks for the great info, Ringer! Very helpful!

I can confirm that VPower feels better. I switched from VPower to $20 of Shell 98, then to $20 of Mobil Synergy 8000, then back to V power. It definitely feels smoother.

Interesting about the synthetic oil. Castrol must be the supplier for Mazda rotary oil then...

Anyone else have any further info to share?
:)

Thank Ringer,

I've being wondering what's happening at the Jap Engineer meet.

Thanks for updating the meet.

About Castrol being the supplier of Mazda oil was indeed mentioned many times in the other oil threads.
