no lah came to ofis early today (earliest in the last 18 months).

erm.. i think so. i bought mine from MM ...after all the discounts...ard $125k (if i rmbr correctly). that was early this year in Jan

Kukumalu 10-10-2005 01:35 AM

If anyone's interested, I think it's $127,988 before discount from MM now, due to low COE prices. And of course, everyone is buying car this week. I think prices have fallen $4k from the time I got mine, which is less than 1 month! Talk about hyper-depreciation. lol.

It's like playin the friggin stock market.....wish I had enough insight and could have found a way to short cars in Singapore two years ago :D Thing is, how would one short a car by borrowing it now to buy it back later?...unless of course you could borrow one from auntie without her knowledge....haha :p

short selling is so so dangerous....but so exciting.

Why auto cheaper? Just because.

Yes it's strange... but it's true. ;) I think it's the only car in the market with this characteristic. heh. Ok, since the 'seniors' haven't answered this yet, let me see if I can help.

Well, the reason the auto is cheaper is because for the manual version, MM has thrown in all the extras like sunroof, DSC (dynamic stability control), electric seat, 18" rims, sports suspension + bigger front brake rotors, etc. And yes, the hp is 238hp while the auto is less (under 200; can't remember.) Of course, they provide 3 year servicing blah blah.

I have the manual but as far as I'm concerned, the biggest drawback is it's hard to eat ice-cream and drive right now :D I'm sure the auto is nice and wonderful, not to mention a good 20-25K less, but shucks, I got 'suckered' when I drove the testdrive car and hit 9000rpm and I just didn't want anything else. I can't explain it but I was hooked! (Btw, the auto hits 7.5K thereabouts I think, which is like more that what I thought I would ever reach)

I'll leave the discussion about the pros/cons of more HP versus auto to those who actually use all the horses! :p

I think all about the same lah. It's hard to compare car to car because usually, the discount you can get from the salesperson is dependent on how much money they make from you. So you might hear 2 people get different discount and curse and swear but one person might be taking 90% loan for 10 years and the other is large down-payment with 5 year loan. Then for sure the first person get higher discount if you know how to bargain.

Also, if you're trading in another car, that's another whole story. Most people when buying new car only think of new car price, and then you sell your 'old' car for less money that it's really worth, but you still happy because you think you get a better/more discount which they give you.

Dealers love to have the price of the COE to drop, not that they can sell more cars at a lower price. But to make more profit with the same price.

I bought my RX8 at $132K with $21K COE
The COE is now $12K. so the new price should be $125K right?

But MM's price is $127K which is only a $5K drop while the drop in COE is $9K

Why is the price drop not the same as the drop in COE?

No upset but just wonder why the drop in car price is not the same as drop in coe price

M-ster 10-16-2005 11:36 PM

the OMV of the JDM and MM has a different of almost $10k!!

MM should be about $35k?
JDM which what I've is $44k

So when come selling the 8, MM car will fetch a low price as well.
