A little steep in my opinion.

Got mine for around the same price in Oct this year, but its an Oct '05 car with just 17k on the clock.

OMV is around the same due to COE differences.

OMV 36k + 20k (rough estimate for car body export) = Car is worth just $56k

Even at 87k the car is expensive imo especially since you now have one year less to drive the car before the 5 year mark comes up and you either have a choice of driving it all the way or scrapping / export body it to avoid the drop in PARF value after 5 years.

Also I'm willing to bet that this car is modded - that means that the MM warranty is probably void.

Just my 2 cents worth anyway - if my figures are wrong, pls feel free to change em.

allen 12-15-2006 03:35 AM

i went to see this car too. It is mod and the exhaust is not LTA approved.
I find it too expensive too. Not really worth for this price.

INXS 12-15-2006 05:57 AM

Its a good buy below 78k in my opinion. Maintenance issue will kick in >25k km.
The mods are already there I guess, so you can save a bundle on upgrading to aftermarket. However, if you plan on becoming LTA cUmpliant, you can also choose to sell/exchange with those who are itchy :bootyshak and change to something tts compliant/stock.

Step 1: Bargain
Step 2: Bargain Somemore
Step 3: Bargain and demand for changes to the wear and tear parts (Just before u sign on the dotted line)

Roulette 12-15-2006 11:01 AM

I agree with Swerve's Figures, 51.5k is what i got for ur paper value, meaning at 90K, he is charging you almost 40grand for body. (23k is more fair, that was my car's body value when i bought mine at 2 yrs old)

I would personally not buy it unless it's at 76 - 78 k. also, note that for my car at least, i spent a total of 4k in wear and tear components (o2 sensor, ignition coil plus the 2k steering column)

on the bright side, u save on bodykit and rims! :) okay lah, i'll pay 79.5k .. MAX!

allen 12-15-2006 07:34 PM

is this correct? i tot we should calculate the omv 36k plus the coe rebate etc to come to 50+k paper value. then u add up the body value of maybe 20k. the whole figure if u export the car should be about 70+k for the car. thus the remaining is their profit.

am i right? Paper value does not include body value right?

Roulette 12-15-2006 08:23 PM

yep, the body value is very subjective. diff dealers will quote diff body values, generally a 2 yr old 8 will have abt 23k body.

but u r right, the remaining is their profit (too much)

allen 12-15-2006 08:38 PM

actually is a two years old rx8 body is abt 23k? i got a friend who deal with exporting car. From what i know from him only one jap car at the moment is 20k and above which is WRX STI body. other than that are european cars.

Those car dealers even tell me the car body is 25k and above. hahaha....

i have been looking for rx8 for a few months. hahahah until abit sian already.
but no choice wont want to settle for auto. hopefully i can get one before my current car road tax expire.

c h o x 12-16-2006 02:42 AM

I bought my then 2.5 yrs old 8 at 82k. COE slight higher plus mine falls under the 65% PARF scheme. For that, I think this blue 8 is way overpriced...

2 other things worth mentioning...

I don't think the dealers brought in the car at (remaining paper+current body) value, therefore (asking price)-(remaining paper+current body) cannot equal profit. My guess is they took in about (remaining paper+current body)+6 to 9k.

23k plus minus abit body value is the curent market...I think mileage + condition + additional stuff (i.e leather seat etc...) makes a difference. I'll be happy if i can fetch 21-22k for my body...

sorry to ask this. just curious since you guys are on this topic.

a dealer told me that car colours that are easy to export are : black, silver.
worse colours to export: white, red.

http://www.sgcarmart.com/main/info-2ARuniz9-1172.html - for this car, the paper value now is 50, 417. if we take body at 25k -> selling price is 75.5k. guess 79.8k is their price for an increased profit.

you referring to the blue mod rx8? i saw that car at AML yday. looks impressive, it's definitely a head turner :) but price wise, refer to swerve76's reply - makes a lot of sense imo.

If you have decided to get from Pang Brothers, let me know. I can try to get you a better price, as I know them personally.

hmmm i got this off fundsupermart website:

Rule of Thumb When Purchasing a Car

If you think that you have enough money stored away and you would like to have a car, this is our rule of thumb. In order for you not to be overly stretched, you should be making a salary of at least 10 times the depreciation value of the car.

So if your car depreciates at $8,000 every year, you should be making at least $80,000 a year. This way, your losses are confined to 10% of your income. If you dont make at least this amount, try to talk yourself out of it, youd be a slave to your car and losing money.

I found out the other day that the lower price was associated with a higher interest rates, sometimes up to 4.5%, whereas the higher asking price was at the market interest rates. :us4allswi

At the end of the day, interest rates has to be considered if you're taking a considerable amount of loan, on top of the paper depreciation... :beer05:

cheers :)

I got my silver 4AT 8 on 11 Nov 2006. I wanted to get red but this was their last 8. So i bargained the price down to $86588 (brand new 8). so my depreciation is only $6k plus... :ylsuper:

And I only earn $60000 a year and not $80000 a year. But my wife is also earning about the same, just a little lesser...

King105 12-22-2006 09:24 AM

Hi muscleman,

Wonder at 86588 did you have to take any 'mandatory' loans? If not that's a pretty good deal.

Not at all.
