Finally....my Dreams come true!!
 

Hi Everyone,

After about a year of reading this forum, visiting PIs and direct Sellers, doing my financial calculations, envys from passing RX8s on the road and of course, persuading my wife, I FINALLY commited to a RX8 over last weekend!!!!

Bought a RED 6AT from a PI at a really good price and they even throw in the following as well:
- 6-CD changer
- 18" Rims
- Rear Spoiler
- 2-tone Leather seats (Red/Black)

Guranteed 4 COE bids and will be collecting the ride in the 1st week of Jan08. What a great way to start the New Year!!!

I have also read with interest of some of the problems with the RX8 that some brothers faced, namely:
- Bad Radio Reception
- Radio Frequency Problem
- Vibration in Steering Rack
- etc.

If you have not noticed, I am not very technical with cars and some of the more "cheem" issues posted in this forum are beyond my grasp.

With my ride coming in less than 2 months time, I am now desperately reading up all teeny weeny bit of information in this forum so that I can be better prepared.... and believe me, there is alot of information to be found in this forum.

If anyone have any advises to contribute, please feel free to enlighten newbies to RX8 like me.

The freebies are exciting cos mine dun come with any CD changer or spoiler. Mine was 16inch instead of 18inch.

The best advice I can give ya is to come to the meetups that we organise once in a while and have a chat with all the other owners. Feel free to bring your wife and kids as a lot of members do too.

This way you get to see the different cars, mods and hear first hand what benefits (or otherwise) that they give.

Good luck on your COE bids and lets hope you get it sooner rather than later!

And oh yar, this is my 1st car with a Rotary Engine, all my previous drives were on Piston and so here is a very dumb question to those who are experienced with the Rotary.

Question: It is common knowledge that Rotary Engine will consume Engine Oil and that Piston Engine will not. So for my previou rides, I have never top-up engine oil until it is time for servicing and the mechanic will drain and replace the engine oil.

But now that I am driving a Rotary, i guess I will have to top up engine oil myself. Please advise if the below is correct:
- Check Engine Oil levels once every 2 times we fill up the petrol tank
- Top up engine oil myself if levels are low (I have never done this before!!)
- How do I know how much engine oil to top up for which level?
- I am planning to use MM recommended Shell Mineral Oil. Where can I get them (cheapest) and how many should I keep in the boot for the top up?

Congrats, ur right in those inherent 'prob' of an 8 but frankly, which ride doesnt in 1 way or another? However, after collection, ur only prob will be u asking urself 'Y do i wait 1 yr before committing ?!?!?' Haha. Ejy


Also, regarding ur quest on 'consuming engine oil'. its true. But the funny thing is, i'm also very enthusiastic in checking the engine oil level when i got my ride 6 mths back. i've also bought an additional small bottle of shell mineral just in case i need to top up but guess wat, my bottle is still intact 6 months down the road!! maybe its my driving style but my oil doesnt seems to be 'eaten' too much for me to justify a top up.

Btw, i started checking my engine oil level from once every 2 petrol top up to once every 1000km clocked. I personally feel the latter would be good enuff. Cheers

I guess everyone's interval of checking their Engine Oil will differ with their different driving styles.
Guess I will have to monitor my own usage when I get my ride.

Where can i buy the Shell Mineral Oil and for how much?
Do they sell at the Shell Kiosk?

You can get it from the shell petrol station. You check your dipstick once 2000km and change oil every 5000km and the car will be fine. The problems of Rx8 depends on your luck...

Btw, there are always problems with every cars, whether they are big or small. Best is to change your ride every 3 years if you can afford.
My one year old 4AT Rx8 won't stay with me for long as I'm eyeing on Type R or Euro R.

Are you saying that I have to top up Engine Oil every 2000km if the dipstick reading is low and at every 5000km, I still have to drain and change all the Engine Oil?

How often do you guys send the RX8 in for maintenane anyway? Every 10000km like for normal piston engines?

Just service every 2500km like me then u wont even have to check oil level...unless u tracked.

What else can the mechanic do besides topping up the Engine Oil if the car is services every 2500km?

I guess my last question will be:
- When I check the dipstick and if it is low, how do I know how much Engine Oil to top up? Is there any kind of standard such that if the dipstick level is near to the low notch, top up about 2 litres of Engine Oil, or something like that?

Hi Rhudayar, been having my ride for 3 mths now and still luv it everytime i drive.....just remember to burn out the carbon by giving it a good rev every other day....

Initially i also worried bout the engine oil consumption..so I checked religiously every 2 weeks...but now hor 3 mths down the road...engine oil levels still okie lehz....kekekek

My wife can handle manual but she is lazy. Kenna fooled by her to get the 4AT RX8 a year ago. Furthermore, I'm always the one who is driving the car. Wanted to have a taste of 6MT.

many say at least once a day 7000rpm and above.

i use to do that like a few times a day but nowadays 1 full tank costs over $110.00, so have to discipline my right foot a bit.

if u rev a lot at high rpm or high speed, you will need to check you oil more often.
1 trip up to kl can drink 1 litre of engine oil.

and when u rev at high rpm, you can smell a little chao tar smell,
i think it's engine oil but i may be wrong
and since i changed to synthetic, the smell seems to be very much reduced.
