FE32 problems

hi to all,

wanted to know wat are the problems encountered for the RX8 bought from MM?

heard there's quite a number of problems.

my bf got a really lousy looking brake rotors and the pple from the garage says that the rotor is not straight. meaning the surface isnt even. it looks very very dirty and brownish. not exactly the effect of the brake dust only.

n my bf plans to bring the car back to MM for whole brake rotor and perhaps the callipers change.

saw the post which morgan says the aircon is lousy, etc.

noticed that problem too. aircon is at 24 deg everytime but it isnt that cooling.

hope that fellow owners could build up on this thread to help MM rx8 owners in knowing wat to look out for.

thanks.

Problems with FE32 :

1. Aircon - not powerful enough. It must be set at 20 degrees or below. Blower fans not strong, airflow not comfortable.

2. Engine - not powerful enough. Why didn't MM bring in the JDM spec?

3. Occassional rattling noise coming from seats, dashboard. Creaking metal sound coming from rear of car.

4. Windows rattle when wound down halfway.

5. Ugly two tone seats. Cannot specify seat color and options.

6. Useless seat warmers.

7. Number plate too big, blocking the front air dam.

1. y not set to 15deg? dats the lowest u can go and its cold enuf.

2. U can feel the difference of 19 horses? more psychological i tink....

3. Agree. Some noises here n there.

4. Mine do not have this prob. ur vehicle accident before?

5. black n brown combination still nice. Better than the shinka version, imo.

6. Agree, these are 2 damn useless buttons.

7. take out the number plate!!! like many do......

My question is, are these "problems" limited to FE32? I'm pretty sure they can be found on SE3Ps as well (or any other make/model for that matter), except for the seat warmers of coz :p Actually, I made good use of the seat warmer's 2-position lighted switches by rewiring them to power the accessories in my car so they are not so useless afterall. Juz have to use some creativity... I think the best thing about getting the FE32s from MM is that you have someone to make noise/complain/gripe to and they have to do something to fix it since they are the Mazda agent and the car is under warranty. Try asking a PI to fix something and you'll understand why you're paying more for MM cars. :)

Hi blackjack

Dunno why seems ur bf 8 has so many prob.

U mean the garage say the new rotors not straight? A bit of rust when u parked the car overnight and it rained later is quite common on most rotors. Once u drive, the thin layer of rust will go away when u apply brake. Not too sure if this is what u meant by dirty and brownish. The rotors shld be the same on the car at the showroom or when u test drive (if). The diameter is larger than ur bf previous euro R so not too sure what u mean by lousy rotor (maybe defective?)

Aircon u need to set lower. If 24 not cold enuf, then go lower like 20.

Becos of the design of the engine, the low end torque may not be similar to the euro R but get used to it and u will know how to get the most out of the car. If not, getting the JDM 250bhp spec may disappoint ur bf as well (look at the thread where Takahasi report on the dynoed result of JDM 250 bhp model).

Hope everything turn out well after ur visit to MM.

1. A/C in my MM purchased 8 has great fans and blower strength. I set it at 19, crank the fan up for a few minutes when I start out, once cool I set it back down a few minutes later. Very nice ;) I also have V-cool tint for those hot sunny day rides which helps.

2. Engine power is superb. In some areas of Sing where I can hit redline without traffic, major smile factor :)

3. Lucky me...never had any of these problems (yet?).

4. Haven't noticed this at all.

5. Got the black interior...agree with u on two tone.

6. Agreed on that point.

7. Doesn't seem to cause any problems!

8. Honestly can't find anything really negative with my MM 8. I guess the only thing is that I can barely find enough time for another Zaino treatment :p

Thanks for all the replies.

I guess the problems arent only limited to FE32. Probably some JDMs encounter it too.

The brake rotors dun appear as shiny even when compared to the 2 yr old Euro R's. I understand when u mean that the dust would appear after a nite of parking, but no, the dirt/rust still remains there after driving it, even after washing. The mechanic at Leong Seng told us the surface of the rotors arent straight n we should get it checked. Been suspecting there's something wrong with the rotors ever since we've got the car. Coz the dirt is always there and it doesnt look like something u get on a brand new car.

Was told by the mechanic to bring the car down one morning, so they could check to see if there's a need to replace the rotors. But he didnt take down our no. plate for an appointment. Sort of put us on aeroplane.

Almost due for first servicing, and i guess the bf would ask the mechanic to check for problems and perhaps try to argue to change the rotors.

Did remove the front no. plate like most silvias and evos do to improve the air flow and use the sticker no. plate which costs slightly less than $15. It looks much better in our opinion. :)

Actually the problems make the bf think if he had gotten the car from the wrong place. Mayb he should have gotten the JDM 6 speed if not for all the goodies that MM is offering.

Seriously hope everything turns out better after visit to MM.

Thanks once again.

JDMs have their fair share of problems as well... juz dat there is no guarantee that someone will fix that problem for u.

Pray hard that they will change the rotors. Seriously doubt they will ever do that. most they will do is skim ur rotors..... 1 pair of rotors alone is ard 1k. Front n back more than 2k. They wun change for u, sis.... they will only try to remedy the prob. They oredi wun even change brake pads liao, let alone brake rotor....

dun discount the rx8s. Most of us did it oredi.

JDM SE3P 6 speed is not as full spec-ed as FE32. After-sales for MM cars, at least u noe u can push the blame to them if things happen, like wat sqflyer says........

try doing that to the PIs and see what picture they paint for u.....

I shld tink urs is a minute prob and shld be solved in no time. CHEEERS!

come with ur bf to the meet on 5th June...... then maybe u will change ur perception of the rx8. :p

I guess the mechanic would test drive the car and see it its a big problem. n probably they would skim the rotors as u suggested.

We're trying to get the best out of the 3 yr warranty..... push everything to MM. :) but its just kinda outta the way. from the west to the showroom at Aljunied.

Have booked those polo tees and hopefully can come for meetup on Sun. Just praying that the bf doesnt have to work on that day. ;)
