Engine oil choice

Hi guys,

My car is due for oil change at 1K, since MM has yet bring in their Rotary oil, I am considering to get any of the list below.

Which will be a better choice, and if anyone has tried them. Please advice. Thanks.

Trust F2 RE-Spec

Trust F3 RE-Spec

or

HKS RE Racing

Currently using Trust F2. Have used HKS too. Both seems ok to me.

BlackAero 07-19-2004 03:15 AM

Thanks UG.

BTW, anyone has a can of Trust F2 RE for sale (heard a few RX8 owners went to Autobacs and grabbed all). I have checked with Autobacs, they said the supplier has stop supplying Trust to them.

BlackAero 07-19-2004 04:21 AM

MM has confirmed no stock for Rotary oil but can place order and cost $251 for 4 ltrs. They are getting the Mazdaspeed Rotary 1 oil, which Cartonic also carry and selling much cheaper but still expensive IMO.

UG_8 07-19-2004 04:32 AM

Huh autobacs no more ah? Wah piang, in that case left with only HKS can buy from outside. The rest need to order.

MM's rotary oil cost $241 for 4 litres...wah lau that is the most expensive 'snake' oil!!!

Neon 07-19-2004 04:52 AM

I think i wil go mineral........SXXT!!!!

M-ster 07-19-2004 05:36 AM

This Oil issue is really getting out of hand. Couple of post ago, someone posted using Trust Rotary Oil, now Trust F2 (which isn't a rotary oil) for what ever reason has been snatched up. And MM is doing a daylight robbery for asking freakin $251 for engine oil! What the hell is going on here!
Frankly, BlackAero, and who ever got their car from MM, you guys should protest and insist on using nothing else but only the rotary oil! What the hell MM think they're doing, selling rotary engine yet not servicing it the right way! Don't let them get away with things like this man!
By the way Aero, if you intent to go back to rotary oil, avoid using synthetic oil on your next change, just stay with any mineral base oil til the rotary oil comes in.

UG_8 07-19-2004 07:50 AM

M-Ster, Trust F2 is RE-Spec...there is Trust F3 RE-Spec also... But now Autobacs does not stock it, so duno where to get ....

BlackAero 07-19-2004 08:00 AM

MM service advisor confirm that Shell mineral oil meets or not above the requirments of the rotary and hence they will be using that.

Rotary oil will not be available unless you pre-order at the premium price from MM parts dept.

Neon 07-19-2004 08:28 AM

Which one in Shell? Helix? Any numbers or simply grab the Shell Helix off the shelf?

I am not familiar wif mineral. Sorri......

Mster, care to voice ur tots on discouraging Aero from Syn? I am interested dats all.

Cheers

Thanks for clearing, I was down at Autobacs and the Trust F2/3 that's left wasn't RE-spec. and I thought that was what people are snatching up.

I'm having these thumping sound coming from the exhuast system since after I change to synthethic, I'm not sure if that's the cause. Anyway, it sounded like some kind of combustions happen only at the header area and amplified as it exit after the cat. According to the workshop, it's not normal, they have to send my ECU back to Japan to dyno.
Anyway, I've being trying to get my hand on some rotary oil, hopfully to change out what I have in the engine now(syn).
As we all know, the basic oil change routine only drain out about half the oil in the engine, for anyone who wanna keep to mineral/dino (which is original that comes in the car) should keep to it, rather than switching to syn then back to dino. Then one wouldn't end up having different mixes of oil in the engine.

Sorry, did a bad cut and paste job, that was meant for Neon. :o

UG_8 07-19-2004 11:11 PM

M-ster, so ur car is out of action for 2 weeks?

M-ster 07-19-2004 11:31 PM

No, not yet. I'm still driving it. Going away in Sept, then I'll leave my car with the work shop. Partly dragging it also, I wanna have an oil change (back to mineral base) and see if there's any diff. Always prefer to try the basic fix first before they start taking the car apart.

Fab 8 07-20-2004 12:22 AM

M-ster, keep us posted on the ECU.

Actually, since they are sending your ECU to Japan, might as well send to the tuners for something different, eh? ;)

M-ster 07-20-2004 12:58 AM

Well the only thing I hope by sending the ECU up is also to get the lastest re-flash with it. Hopfully when I get it back all bugs will be fixed and I'll enjoy the 18km/L claims that they made:)

UG_8 07-20-2004 01:44 AM

Thumping sound? Hmm I do have some 'poof-poof' sound during idling after I change to the HKS open pod filter...

M-ster 07-20-2004 02:02 AM

Hmm, sounds like a common enough situation. Some people says it's normal, but the workshop guys think otherwise. Maybe I should leave it, but then it's kind of bugging me...:(

UG_8 07-20-2004 04:07 AM

Well when accelerating it is smooth, thus I am not that bothered by it. The rotatry idling is definately rough and you can see the oil pressure is also fluctuating. I guess maybe with the M-Flash or ? Flash, this will solve it.

But I do think that Mazda Japan must be responisble of supporting Mazda Cars, irregardless whether we buy from PIs or MM. Maybe we can petition to Mazda Japan...or maybe initiate a class action

Neon 07-20-2004 09:21 AM

I second dat! Maybe we should all go to Paya Lebar MM and use our 8 to block the entrance. Haha.

Mster, keep us posted man. I would really love to know whether the flash can cure dat. If it does, i will be really disappointed with ALL PIs!

melo 07-26-2004 02:25 AM

Hi guys,

If I'm not mistaken, the japanese engineer who is reputed to be very experienced with rotary engines said synthetic oil was better for the engine, right? Was he referring to only rotary engine oil? or any kind of synthetic engine oil?

Ringer 07-26-2004 04:15 AM

Hi Melo,

I posted something on that after Sato san gave the talk. If I remember correctly, he swears by synthetic oil. "To win a race - use Castrol", 10W60. Something like that.

-Ringer-

melo 07-29-2004 07:30 AM

Hi Ringer

Thanks for your info. I'm assuming that Castrol oil he mentioned isn't specially for rotary engines?

There are so many different views on what oil types to use, it can get a little confusing. From scanning the forum pages, sounds like alot of the SG RXs are going on rotary engine oil.

Perhaps thats the safest option...

Neon 07-29-2004 08:34 AM

Confirm Castrol RS? Isnt dat 5-50 onli??
