Dyno ShootOut

Hi All,

I am a S'porean but working in Aust, but my poor RX8 left in S'pore all alone.

Recently they had a Dyno Shootout at a nearby venue for any modded cars.

But lets forget about other cars and concentrate on RX8s. :ylsuper:

There were 6 participants today, 4 were NA, but the other 2 were "Charged", and there too was a seventh one which is Stock.

Guess what, the 4 NA ones with modded exhaust, air intakes, and 2 out of the 4 NA had after-market ECUs as well. After they went on the Dyno, so did the Stock one, none of the modded ones had increased power, instead the Stock beat them all. Sad case and story siah...... :Eyecrazy:

One of the renown Mazda Mod Specialist there too mentioned that the only way to want significant improvment of power is really to either Supercharge, Nitrous or Turbocharged. If leaving our cars NA, just leave it as it is, as Mazda have done too good a job optimizing the ECU liaoz.

And a word of advice from him was to avoid the Greddy Turbo Kit for the RX8, not a good product at all wor........ :nono:

Just letting you guys know whats going on around over here.

Not surprising as not all mods are as effective as they claim. So do, most don't. Getting power w/o FI takes loads of work, luck and common sense.

Not sure about the greddy kit. A kit can work well 9 times; but all it takes is that 1 failure that brings all the good work down. So which kit the specialist recommends?

Most times, a mod doesn't work well is due to the person installing it. And not the product itself.

Btw which part of aus you in?

Is the Dyno Shootout just getting dyno numbers from all the cars as it is or was all the modded cars tuned first then dynoed? How is the shape of the curve on the dyno sheet for the modded ones?

I tink its not just Mazda. Any other NA car, change here change there, the gain is only so much. The thing is, NA car, without any force induction, can only give u that few horses everytime u change the exhaust system, from the manifold, right up to the exhaust. Seriously, u dun need a mazda mod specialist to say this.

What exhaust and what intake were on the car??? those unorthodox kinds? The rx8 are pretty sensitive to those stuff that are not so well developed. Just like some exhausts are not suitable for the 4AT.

If it is so bad, then i dun see y re amemiya and fujita engineering are using this kit and enjoying so much success on their demo car. They cannot be using the kit and destroying their good name, right? Bolting on the kit is standard. The most important thing to this kit is the tuning. U can have the largest turbo and the largest intercooler, but without proper tuning, the car is crap. the key word here is PROPER TUNING from proper people. Try telling that tuner to test the demo car from either fujita or amemiya, i'm sure he will tell u a different story after dat........

Hi guys,

Not having any intention to "Black Mark" any brands, but those few cars there were all tuned, all were using cat-back exhaust, a mixture of HKS, Tanabe and Amuse.

But I do have to agree sometimes the Aussies here are abit up-nose and usually snub down Jap Mods.

As for what brands of turbo charging is recommended, honestly l didn't bother to stay long enough to hear out the entire event, too damn many petrolheads. :hahano:

Emperor, I am currently in Melbourne, I believe you are studying here as well?

Don't get too work up hor anyone here, I apologize if I offended anyone. Me myself never ever turn a NA car into a turbo car, I usually leave them as it is.

Peace Yo!!

Nope. Have relatives there and i go there for my yearly summer holiday. I simply love that place. Will be there in Feb again if not for my daughter. Seriously feel like flying there NOW!

Their mod culture is so way different and eccentric. And there are so many skylines around; almost like a nissan sunny in SG.

It reminded me of something silly i did.

2 years ago, the summer was sooo hot that i drove up to mt buller to escape the heat. What a waste of time...

I want to go over this winter but due to family again had to choose an alternative destination.
