Cruise Control

My PI Japan Spec 8 cruise control will not work above 102Kph. Is this normal and if so how do I increase this limit? If I can't set at least 110 on Malaysian highways (preferably more) it is useless!

best to check with dru8999

I try it on 105km before....... It's good that it's limited for safety reason....... It's easy get into trouble, becos your reaction time will be slower than before..... You dont want some unconsiderable bloke to cut in front of you......

Cruise Control - Safer at Any Speed

If someone cuts in front of you you put on the brakes, with or without the cruise control on, it makes no difference. If the cruise contol is on it is automatically disengaged as soon as you touch the brakes.

The big advantage of using cruise control is that you do not have to keep looking inside the car to check your speed every few seconds. You keep your eye on the road all the time knowing the car is taking care of the speed control a lot more accurately than you can do it. If you are doing 120Kph and it takes (say) 2 seconds to look inside, adjust your eyes, check the speed, look outside and wait for your eyes to adjust again, you will have travelled 66 metres while not looking where you are going! :Eyecrazy: And you probably do that several times every minute. Dangerous lah! Safer to be looking outside and noticing hazards all the time.

Also cruise control saves fuel as it keeps a constant speed with very small throttle adjustments. Not like when we drive...look inside "oh 5Kph slow!" big boot on the gas pedal. Later...look inside "oh 5Kph fast" big boot off the pedal. This wastes fuel.

Limiting the authority of the cruise control to 100Kph does not make sense.

Hi all,

Allow me to share my experience in driving cruise controlled cars. I own 2 cars previously when I was overseas, both cruise controlled. One 4AT and the other 5MT.

I agree with vertalop on reaction time...cruise control on or off does not impose additional time for braking, unless of course you drive like me, both legs on the seat when travelling long distance. In any case, you're suppose to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front, so that when he slows down, you'll not be force to disengage your cruise control.

Driving with cruise control on does in fact saves gas, on the condition the roads have to be flat in general. For the 5MT, the control supply more fuel to the engine in order to cope with the decreasing speed when driving up slope. As for the AT version, if the car senses a up slope steep enough, it'll automatically down-shift to maintain the current speed...this waste gas and over a long distance, you might end up using more gas...

Oh, one last thing...I've never heard of cruise control disengaging at 100kph. :nono: I've use mine up to 180kph without any problem. :Freak_ani

Mine is 6spd MT from MM, any cruise control?

sqflyer 08-06-2006 12:44 AM

MM spec 8s do not have cruise control. If it did, you would definitely see the "controls" because that's what you need to use in order to control the cruise control. If you can't see any cruise control "controls", then you don't have cruise control. :)

Andrew, i never check the KPH while i'm driving, unless i'm checking if i ever hit 250KPH....... :hahano: So i dont use the cruise control...... the first time i use it is also the last time....... Almost three years ago.....

The speed lmiter on your cruise control might have something to do with japan specs.......
