Most insurance only covers private use. If vehicle is used for commercial purpose (like rental), insurance will not cover. Check the fine print on the insurance policy.

after which i will save up for an 8...thinking of paying in full.
not worth paying thousands in interest esp once the GST goes up this July.
so any recommendations for a rented 8?
hmmm, this insurance thing is tricky man.
anyone, any ideas? :)

Since you say "not worth paying thousands in interest esp once the GST goes up this July", then book now lor, since GST still 5%. But I still dun see a relation between GST and interest. :p:

As for insurance, write an agreement that borrower(not hirer) will personally bear on charges in case of damage, in case insurance dun pay. Then, there is no hiring between owner and borrower. At the end, borrower to bao a ang pow of the agreed rental amount. Coz when go to court, there is no profits involve, and ang pow is our custom, which cannot be classified as payment or profits.

A lot depends on how well you know the other guy. We would easily lend our cars to our close friends for their wedding even without red packet, but a bit hard to lend to an absolute stranger even if he signs an agreement to cover any damages because if he refuses to pay in the end, you have to take up a civil suit against him which costs a lotta money.

Whether it is ang pao (customary or not) or rent, as long as you are receiving any form of compensation, it can be considered as commercial use. Best bet is to check with your insurance company and get the renter to pay for any "extras" that the insurance company wants to charge to rent out your vehincle for the day.

Why rent an 8 for your wedding....I can think of many more photogenic and/or exotic cars if you're going to spend for rent for pix over three days.

Besides, if you're not gonna drive the 8 on ur wedding day, it's gonna be a bit cramped sitting at the back. Especially for the bride if she's wearing the bridal gown.. not even Bride seats will help. (sorry, can't help myself with the pun)

Actually, I'd like to know if any company in San Diego rents out RX-8s. I have a 2004 RX-8 Touring but live in the North East. I'd like to be able to rent one when I'm on holiday in San Diego, in November because I don't want to drive all the way across the country just to get there and I don't want to have to flat-bed it there and back.
