Advise on 6-disc changer

Hi guys...
I am quite a newbie regarding the rx8... gonna collect it from a PI next week i think....

But was told the 6-disc loader is not ready yet.... wondering if i should get a refund and buy a nice head unit locally? was told that most head units will not fit the 8.......

Or i should just wait for it ... and get it installed thru the PI?

any advice?? thankz....

It's not that aftermarket head units can't fit... They'll fit but the problem is the face plate. Most new cars nowadays have factory head units tucked neatly behind aesthetically pleasing face plates that blend nicely with the interior theme of the car. The only problem is you can't change your factory head unit without getting an appropriate face plate.

In the case of the RX-8, I believe there are aftermarket face plates that will let you install an aftermarket head unit but you would have to get a hold of one or order one online. Not sure if any local audio shops has them in stock (or even brings them in), but I highly doubt it. So it's up to you what you want to do, get the car early, get a refund for the head unit, fit and aftermarket one and then live without a face plate until you can find one. Or just wait for them to get the head unit. I guess the PI's head unit is the JDM one with the different FM frequencies? Actually, I think they are just stalling you. *shrug*

bro,

6 disc loader as in a changer or the original front load?

mine came with a JVC rf 6 disc changer which
i changed to original 6 disc front load on my own.

actually the 6 disc head unit will come with the ride mah,
if they tell u not ready, make sure they get it for you and you put it in writing.

I agreed wif SQflyer, they might be stalling or they might be trying
to wriggle their way out of providing one.

Hi BlackEight,

How much you paid for the original front load in-dash 6-disc changer? You bot it thru MM and fitted locally?

Thanks,
Richard

bro, one audio oredi got the face plate to fit a 2 din head unit into our original console... leaving behind only the aircon control.... rest of button will be gone...

the face plate is made juz for the RX8, from japan somemore.......

sqflyer 04-11-2006 07:06 PM

There you go, Icem@n...

I know such a face plate exist, but it's quite uncommon. How many audio shops in Singapore would actually bring in the 2DIN face plate and keep stock? Market is just too small. Anyway, now we don't even know if he is refering to the factory in-dash 6-CD Changer head unit or an after market external 6-CD Changer. *shrug*

I would definitely wait and let the Mazda dealer install the OEM in-dash 6-disc changer for you- for 2 good reasons:

1. The factory 6-disc changer integrates perfectly and is not going to get STOLEN.
2. The factory faceplate on the RX-8 is really NICE looking and contoured to fit the car. Why destroy the look?

My .02 cents anyways...

Its true. And its also the sad part. The audio quality and functions of the OEM is sorely lacking. Worse, no mp3s; i think some new hindas can play mp3s on the OEM unit.
