Hello all who will read,

This morning I bought some 2nd hand bc racing coilovers for my rx8, they are the BR-RS as far as I-ve found, bought it for 400 with about 13/30k km's usage (couldn't understand the seller that well), I've put them on the car which took me the rest of the day, didn't know rx8's would have given me such a hard time changing struts; gotta love overengineering. Now the height is correct cus the previous owner didnt change it, but the rebound is, he changed a dial himself to show me how it works and my brother also changed 1 to check how much settings it has,

My question being:
Does anyone also have a bc racing set which has its rebound set up quite well, and do you know what settings it is on so I can copy it? (and from there on out maybe set something up myself)

I would prefer a harder rear end, so it can slide a bit better, but not too much so it cant take corners without sliding at all, because I still want to take it to the ring and just have a blast on B-roads without constantly oversteering
I already have an upgraded anti-roll-bar front and rear

TL:DR: does someone have good bc-racing BR-RS rebound settings which I can copy?

Hi Folks .. hope all is well ... seeking advice on alignment and related ...

Ruffus is my 2004 RX8 6-speed with 43K miles. I just put new Michelin tires on it and got new brakes in the past year or two. For a while now I've been getting a vibration when I apply the breaks (especially hard stops) at medium-to-high speeds --presumably from the wheels. I was hoping the old tires were the culprit and the new tires seems to have improved a bit but vibration persists. I think I read somewhere that you can't do wheel alignment on RX8s ... please let me know whether or not this is the case. If you can share your experience and suggested remedies on this Ruffus and I would greatly appreciate it.

Regards,
Ric

I just recently purchased a MazdaEdit license and an OBDXPro VX cable. I'm having issues downloading my OEM dump file. I've reached out to several different vendors and apparently the OBDXPro VX cable does not work with the RX8 and is not a suitable replacement for the Tactrix Openport 2.0 which is no longer available.

Does anyone have any legit replacement cables, not knock off clones, or does anyone have a Tactrix Openport 2.0 cable that I can borrow?

Hello all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've owned my 2004 RX8 6sp MT for a little over a year and have found this forum to be indispensable when it comes to over all knowledge.

Prime example is early on after I got my RX8 I was experiencing a weird ABS issue when turning at +15 mph. After some searching and a boat load of reading, I came across a thread that mentioned some wiring in the left of the trunk that likes to fray from the trunk lid and cause ABS issues. I would have never thought to look for wiring in the trunk to be causing a front wheel ABS issue, but it ended up fixing that issue.

Anyways just wanted to pop out of the shadows to say hello and thanks to everyone that shares their knowledge on these cars!

Hello! I recently purchased a 2004 rx8, the guy who previously owned it had built it to race on a track, with that it has a fuel switch. The car at first wouldnt start when hot but I went through and cleaned the spark plugs and now it starts every time, but sometimes it has trouble and floods, I do not think its the plugs, coils, wires, battery, or starter (might be starter not entirely sure) when I start it, I let the engine run a second or two then flip on the fuel switch however it sounds like the engine is trying to catch up and when it does eventually start, white smoke comes out of the exhaust but then it runs fine. I cannot figure out whats wrong, the engine is pretty much new aswell as most of the parts in the car, however the car did unfortunately sit for a good bit before he sold it. Pls help!

P.S. Engine pressure is 130

I got a 2005 rx8 a few days ago and it won’t rev above 4-5k rpms. It can go through all of the gears but stops accelerating past 4-5k rpms. It doesn’t seem like a “rev limiter bounce” more of like a loss of power at 4-5k rpms. 100% on the throttle pedal and it’s like I’ve hit a wall of dough.

First Attempt
The first day I got it, it showed up with codes P0172 (System too rich) and P0850 (Neutral switch circuit). I managed to fix the P0850 code by connecting two unplugged wires under the car. I also cleaned out the MAF sensor using MAF in an attempt to clear out the P0172 code.

I did the 20 brake pumps and cleared out the codes while it’s on the ON (engine not started). When I started the car, it didn’t return the P0850 code anymore, so connecting those plugs near the transmission might’ve fixed it. But the P0172 code popped up again after around 1-2 mins of idling. I tried to do a neutral rev and it only got up to around 4.5k rpms. Also, I tried to turn the AC on after driving and while it’s idling: it stalled the engine.

Second Attempt
I cleaned the MAF sensor again with MAF cleaner and let it dry out. Did the 20 brake pumps and cleared out the codes. It wasn’t giving out the P0172 code, right up until I started driving it. Around a minute into driving it, it gave out the P0172 code and I wasn’t able to go above 4-5k rpms on any gear (even the neutral).

Third Attempt
It might be helpful to mention that the previous owner installed a pretty janky intake system. They installed an aftermarket MAF sensor housing and a cone filter intake, but kept everything else stock on the intake system side (Accordion tube and everything else after it). Also, the air filter was dirty and dusty. I cleaned the air filter but after the amount of particles (sand and dust) inside the air filter I decided to just call it quits and buy a new one. I bought a cheap Spectre cone filter from O'Reilly's. Also, I should mention that the previous owner installed an unbranded silver 2.875in interior diameter MAF housing (this info may be important and I’ll expand on it later). Then, I checked the SSV: I can move it freely with my hand and it snaps back.

Fourth Attempt
This attempt goes along with the previous attempt because I haven’t started the car yet with the new cone filter. I wanted to rule out the catalytic converter as a suspect. I saw on some threads and videos saying it might be the cause of the “rpm wall” (hint: it wasn’t). So then I dropped the catalytic converter and unplugged the downstream o2 sensor because it was dangling and putting tension on the wires. I cleared the codes and did the 20 brake pumps. With the new cone filter and the cat dropped, I started the car. I got the codes P0113 (IAT sensor), P0102 (MAF sensor), and P0172 (System too rich). It was idling pretty rough; it would spike and then drop and then it would stabilize and then spike and then drop over and over again. Until it was stabilized. I did a neutral rev and only got to around 5k rpms until it hit that “rpm wall”.

That’s about how far I got into it. I installed the new filter, hoping that it wouldn’t make the MAF sensor dirty (I theorized that the old filter was making it dirty and reading bad numbers). This attempt confirmed that the problem is not on the exhaust side because it still hit the rpm wall with the catalytic converter flange disconnected from the header.

Fifth Attempt (pending)
What do you guys think? I previously mentioned that the owner before me installed an aftermarket MAF sensor housing that’s 2.875” and I think the stock interior diameter is around 3.375”, it also doesn’t have a turbulence screen. Is this causing the bad readings? Should I get a new MAF sensor, get the stock airbox back to the previous diameter, or both? I’m pretty stuck on what to do. Is it an entirely different problem I’m not aware of? My goal is to just be able to access the full rpm range.

Extra notes:
- On the second attempt, I actually started it twice. First time I just idled it and 100% throttled it slowly until it hit that 4-5k rpm wall. Then the second time I started the car, I revved it and it was able to achieve all the way up to 9k rpms. Does that confirm the fact that the engine is able to achieve the full rpm range, but the ECU is stopping it?
- Do you guys think it’s the MAF sensor housing is causing the wrong readings and causing the STFT and LTFT to be all over the place (because of the pipe continuity principle)? Does the decreased diameter of the housing increase the airflow speed? The housing may be causing a double problem, it increases the perceived airflow speed and it’s also not tuned to that certain diameter. Is it thinking that more air is coming through a 3.375” housing and it multiplies the problem because of the 2.875” housing?

I’ll post my MAF, STFT, and LTFT readings in the comments.

Please let me know how to fix this "rpm wall" problem. Thank you!

Hi guys, i need help. I need to know how should i lauch my 8 at the dragstrip, its my first time racing with an 8 (and with a manual car at all), wich rpm should i launch at, how should i release the clutch, i heard terms like feathering the clutch or slipping it, i don't need to be the fastest but having a good launch while not harming too much the clutch would be a nice sweet spot, i do it for fun
for info if it changes something i have a 2010 rx8 gt with a cleared cat and a modified 3 inch exhaust, else its all stock

Hi everyone, I’m looking to get a comprehensive PDF workshop manual for my vehicle, preferably one that covers both routine maintenance and detailed repairs.
I’ve seen some manuals online, but I’m unsure which ones are reliable and up-to-date. Does anyone have recommendations for trusted sources, either digital or printed versions?
Additionally, are there any tips for using these manuals effectively while working on a car at home?
Any advice on avoiding outdated or incomplete manuals would also be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,
I'm lost, I've read all the threads on the P1688 error code and had my Mechanic try all the recommended diagnostic fixes and the bottom line, it's pouched!
Anyone have any ideas where to source a replacement at at reasonable cost; prices ranging from $4300 CAD to $400 used.
Suggestions please....... Is it worth buying a new one or anyone have a stash of these? 20 year old car and I need to replace all the thread-bare tires so it's getting to that pint. Love driving the car, stored every winter, really want to keep it going.....
Thanks
