Tyre Pressure sensors

According to an American sales letter sent to deales, I saw on the main discussion forum, the RX-8 has listen under EXterior features 'Tyre pressure monitor'.

Is this something I've missed earlier or is this new to everyone.
Or is it just an American installed feature?

These systems I believe work by housing a remote sensor on the wheel inside the tyre void space. Therfore is this feature lost if you exchange your wheels (not something I plan to do) .

There was some discussion on another part of the forum.

Aparently theres 2 types, 1 with wheel sensors, the other using the ABS/DSC electronic gizmo's to monitor wheel reactions and deduce tyre pressure.

General consensus was that the RX-8 had the latter (inferior I believe) version.

I havnt noticed iton any Uk litirature tho.

EDIT :- From the newly posted guide :

Tire pressure monitoring system
? Uses a radio frequency to monitor wheel-mounted tire pressure sensors, activating a warning light in the instrument panel if the tire pressure is too low
? Alerts the driver to low tire pressure so that optimum tire pressure can be maintained for better performance and handling

So I gues its the 1st sytem. not heard about this for Uk or japan, wonder if EAST MOON has this and had it transfered over from his old wheels?

My father was just telling me someting about that yesterday.
He was telling me about a remote sensor for the tire pressure. I was asking him some questions regarding the 18inch's and he was telling me factory was the only way to go due to the sensor and warranty, ect.. I am a girl and tire talk was not top on my list with him.

I'm not sure if it's required in other parts of the world, but in the U.S. tire pressure monitors are going to be required on all vehicles in a year or two. Apparently, us stupid Americans aren't smart enough to remember to check our tire pressure ourselves. It all started because of the the Ford Exploder owners killing themselves with tire blow outs because they had next to no air in their tires.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

FYI: from this document:

http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4765

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
The tire pressure monitoring system monitors the pressure for each tire. If tire pressure is too low or too high in one or more tires, the system will inform the driver via a warning light in the instrument panel and a warning buzzer. The tire pressure sensors installed on each wheel send tire pressure data by radio signal to the receiver unit in the vehicle. The system does not alleviate the driver's need to check the pressure and condition of all four tires before driving.
For additional details and warnings, refer to the 2004 Mazda RX-8 Owner's Manual.
