Sunroof

I understand that this will be glass not metal and will therefore disturb the visual flow of the roof line. This will probably look less obvious on the grey tit and black but stand out in the Silver and red.

Wondering what the general opinion is.

My last 2 cars did not have sunroofs and were not really misssed but sometimes in the summer its nice to have everything open.

Any views.

Oilman - sunroof poll?

Sunroof is a must, great used in the tilt mode when travelling at speed to keep fresh air running trough the car without making to much noise. Good for keeping alert on a long run!

On this note is anyone aware if the rear door windows open, it looks like they may be of the pushout/hinge variety?

rael 02-24-2003 11:31 AM

They push out but only once the front door has been opend and have a seperate handle.

Surely one doesn't have to open the front doors to open the rear windows?

ROTORIST 02-24-2003 11:48 AM

rael,

The rear door windows, not the actual doors themselves!

rael 02-24-2003 11:59 AM

Read the question too fast, actually thought is was a 'too basic' question to ask but thought I'd have a go anyway.

Rear windows no idea - would not surprise me if they did not open at all but considering it selling as a 4 seater I think they should.

Final Answer - Good question.........

What about my original sunroof question......?

Well I've just ordered one of these cars yesterday!

I didn't go for a sunroof on mine.

The space required for the sunroof sliding into the roof space on most cars takes up quite a bit of headroom. I didn't want to take the chance of that being too obtrusive.

Climate control should keep you cool anyway....

Titanium Grey 02-26-2003 11:01 AM

The sunroof slides up and over the roof of the car, so headroom wont be lost.

However I havent seen a detailed pic of the roof to see if the two ridges that are fairly prominent on the close ups of the roof are still there with a glass lid.

Elara andseveral other folks who saw the cars at detroit said the doulble bubble was not lost:)

I havent had a sunroof on my last few cars and not missed it at all.

The only reason I would have one is if I went for the all black leather to lighten the interior up a bit.

However, I am going for the red/black leather now so I dont need to worry about it.

From a totally personal perspective, I see sunroofs as a waste of money in general. They add weight, rubber seals could go, hence the roof will leak when it rains, etc. Basically, if i want my hair to be blown about during the summer, a convertable is a much nicer option  But like i said, this is my own opinion. Altho I have to add, the new Mini, with the glass roof and sunroof adds ALOT of needed light into the cabin, as my friend showed me on his Mini Cooper. Just have to wait and see how well the rx8 lets light in.

Kind of hard to see on the silver but they are still there.

I think the moonroof (so called because it is glass not metal I understand) has value for the light it allows into a cabin which has value in the all black option. I am not worried about any rubber seals problems, not in the first 10 years anyway. Also. on a hot day it does alow the air to escape quickly and will provide additional airflow.

I may go for it at only £500.
