Are the road reports important?

With all the negativity about due to delivery dates and power reductions how much more bad news can you take??

If CAR, EVO and other quality monthlys slam the RX8 and the production car road tests are poor, will you cancel??

I'm in the wrong frame of mind to take more bad news so it may be the final nail in the coffin for me. Believe CAR and EVO will review in the next couple of months so we'll see!!

Cheers

If it gets much bad press or there is a recuring theme in the problem list then it would also be the final nail for me too.

negative reports

Personally i try and read between the lines of any article ,as everyone has differing expectations of what is agood motorcar , however negative articles do effect the interest and the re-sale values of the cars ,so ihope that the rx8 does not recieve to much canning ,otherwise i will go to plan b, a Mugen Honda s2000.

Firstly, nice to have all you UK types back today. I was holding the fort on my own for a while and shucks, it was mighty lonesome!

Secondly, I bought the fabled AutoCar review today expecting to see doom gloom and the end of Mazda as we know it (I wish) but instead I was pleasantly surprised. It's a GOOD review!!! I'll post it later today when I get home and some comments from a knowledgeable colleague. Apart from the delivery mayhem don't worry about the car, it's a good 'un!

I would say that if a car gets slated on all counts then this would be a bad sign, and wont help sales or residuals. In the real world, it is what you think of the car, and how it fits your needs/budget that matters.

A load of bad reviews might be the final nail in the coffin for me, so long as they are not making silly comparisons.

Most of the negative reviews we have seen so far seem to go something like:

1) Isn't it great that Mazda can produce this 350Z/Evo/Sti competitor at such a bargain price.
2) What a shame it hasn't got the performance of a 350Z/Evo/Sti.

Duh!!

If they compare it to a TT, 325Ci, 406 V6 Coupe and it still doesn't come off that well then I'm probably off.

Lol, not the way top gear think.

They slated the vectra (amongst others) and it still went onto sell zillions. Not everybody reads the mags.watches tv. But with high perf cars I think it helps lots.

Its always nice to read a good review of something you've bought, as it helps justify your decision and make you think you have made the right choice.

I cant see the RX8 reviews being bad, as so far most reviews have been positive. You will always get different mags with different reviews, as in most cases its just one persons opinion anyway.

The only things some mags may pic up on is the lack of power/torque as it has gone down from the previous tests they did and possibly the fuel consumption.

Does anyone know if any of the UK monthlys (Evo, Top Gear, Car, What Car etc) went to the Rimini launch so we may see a ~Euro spec review in the next few weeks?

Any reviews going forward have to be positive for me on;

- torque problem not there due to close gearing
- internal quality compares well to prime Euroean makes
- will see like hot cakes (depreciation not a major problem)

but if they suggest we spend a few bob more and go for the TT or S2000 then that might be it for me.
