Rear lights problem ?

First post ... not yet owner !

After a first test drive a couple of weeks ago in a unknown neighbourhood, I did a second test drive today in my own neighbourhood.

After a good 1 1/2 hours we returned to the garage ... to my suprise the "co-driver" came out of the car a went directly to the back of the car checking by taping on the rear lights ...
He had heard some noises ... well I didn't ... probably to focus on the drive it self ! :-)

Then he mention that they seems (both of them !) not well fixed ?!
And that this was the reason for them making noise, and I agreed with him.

But then we also noticed that there was some "condensation" inside BOTH of them ...

This looks not so good .... he told me he will have one of the mecanics look at it.

Because this was a sunny day, I went to another dealer ... where I knew he had a TIT/GRAY/BROWN on his parking lot.
This is the color I may want if I am to buy it.
Well, the sales guy came out on the parking lot with a BIG smile (because he drove it a day before for the first time ...)
I was admiring the car under the sunlights ... then I noticed that the right rear light had also condensation inside of it ...

Is this a known issue ?
Or is it just bad luck ...

Hello Baphi,

This has been discussed on this forum; some have mentioned that condensation does occur in the lenses. It does evaporate and leaves no trace or water mark behind. Use the "search" button to see if you can find more information. I have had my car over 8,000 miles (13,000 kilometers) and have had no ill effects due to said condensation.

Hi, my dealer has reported the problem with several of their cars to Mazda UK. They expect that a modification will be made to the seal round the lights and that those affected will be replaced some time early next year.

Mine has the problem.

Hi Brothervoodoo,
Are you selling your 'fins' on ebay at the moment ??

Toyota had the same issues with the MR2 Roadster even though they did mention it could happen in the handbook - unfortunately the vent they include in the back of the unit was'nt adequate and once mine misted up it took a few dayes to disappear and then it left water marks inside the lense.

The dealer replaced both my front headlamp units under warranty.
The new lenses seem to have a coating inside also?

Hope Mazda will be as good on service as Toyota have been with me over the past couple of years?

Excuse me for derailing this thread, hello gjwinn, I don't sell on ebay. What's a fin, do you mean strakes?

Obist, do you think that "fix" would also apply to North America? It's been raining here as of late, but not nearly to the extent you would experience seasonally in the UK. So far I haven't seen any ill effects, knock on wood.

Hello,

I also have that same conddensation problem on both the rear lenses. Now it is all gone without traces, but I will inform my dealer.

Thanks Kevin.

Very interesting to read that thread.

When collecting our 8 two weeks ago, there was some condensation in the rearlights. My dealer told me not to worry, it was a normal phenomenon. We were not familiair with that ......

It does disappear all the time but we will monitor it for this moment.

Regards,

Eric

Hi Kevin,

I will also follow that condensation-problem. I mentioned it to my dealer who told me that for the moment there is no action underway from Mazda Europe.

regards
Patrick
