PCM Editing software available European RX-8's

4 Attachment(s)
Hi all,

In case it may have slipped through the cracks un-noticed, my sCANalyser ProTuner suite is available for immediate shipping to RX-8 owners in Europe.

One of the very first beta testers is in Germany and loves it, and uses it on his Greddy based turbo install.

Here are some details:

The suite consists of a small hardware box we like to call a brick, a cable, plus software that runs on a Windows PC or laptop. The brick is about the size of a matchbox, and contains proprietary electronics used to perform the following functions:
  • PCM Reflashing operations. A recalibrated PCM “tune-up” is loaded onto the brick via the USB cable, then the brick is plugged into the OBDII port. The ignition is turned on, and ~60 seconds later the RX-8 has a new tune-up in the PCM. The ignition is turned off, and the brick removed.
  • “Hands off” data logging. The brick is plugged into the OBDII port, and logs 2 hours of engine performance data. Commonly used tuning things like RPM, TPS, AFR, MAF, Coolant Temp, Load etc.
  • “Live Mode” for use with sCANalyser Live scan tool – displays up to 6 live gauges on the laptop (or carputer). CEL diagnosis and resetting. Other PCM monitoring functions.

The software components of the suite include the following:
  • sCANalyser Pro Tuner. This allows any calibration map to be altered by the tuner. Maps are displayed in “table” form (numerically) and via 2D or colored 3D charts for easy visualization. 3D Charts can be spun around to look from any angle to spot inconsistencies. The editing functions allow for “bulk” updates to be made to the table data by applying offsets and scaling to ranges of values, and performing smoothing functions over ranges of values. sCANalyser Pro Tuner is also use to save the modified calibration to disk for later re-use, and then written to the brick prior to the reflash procedure.
  • sCANalyser Pro Logger. This reads the logged information from the brick after it has been used in “hands off data logging” mode. The data is displayed graphically and numerically for analysis of performance / tuning modifications. The user can zoom in to see the data in detail.
  • sCANalyser Live USB. This used the brick in “Live Mode” (as above in #3) and acts as a scan tool providing live gauges (graphically very sexy!) and other traditional scan tool functions such as CEL diagnosis and resetting.
I’m not into providing the tuning service myself – just the best tool on the market to get it done. People such as Rasputin, an experienced Powertrain Engineer, are very keen to offer local calibration services using sCANalyser ProTuner.

Note that this is the first tool available (and shipping) that works on RX-8’s worldwide.

I've attached a couple of example screen shots, although my UI is always on the improve, and free software updates are all part of the service!

Please PM me for further details or get me on email via mark at performancedesign dotcom .au (spaces etc inserted to foil spambots :()

Cheers,
Hymee.

What advantages does this offer compared to the AccessPort? What price is it?

O'Renesis 02-10-2009 04:12 PM

+1
Photo's and pricing etc would be good? I have been following this on Hymee's forum but no recent updates or news there?
Will there be maps available or do we have to figure out these ourselves? I guess that rasputin is the only person in the EU that can tune with this software? which means bringing the car to Belgium? or will rasputin be able to provide a service similar to Mazdamaniac and the AP?

EinHeisserSchrei 02-11-2009 03:45 AM

O'Renesis, do you have the AP? I got one and I'm in the process of getting a new ROM package and doing the whole base calibration thing. From what's posted above it sounds like if you buy this you'll have to work it out on your own. Either that or send your ecu or this "brick" off to rasputin after uploading your ecu info onto it.

Looks a bit shifty though, no pics, no price...

Choking .. Cough, cough.

What about the pics in the first post?? 550 Euro will be the price. Just finalising my web site.

Why do I think it is better than the AP? Because you start of with the exact tune-up already in your car, and tweak it to suit, not a one size fits all tune that you don't know what has been used as the base.

Cheers,
Hymee.

EinHeisserSchrei 02-11-2009 05:30 AM

 don't die dude! €550? you gotta be more competitive than that! Knock it down!

MazdaManiac offers the AP for €500 including 11 different calibrations to suit the 8 the customer owns! Each of those calibrations costs $300 normally.

Hymee 02-11-2009 05:49 AM

You get it for free if you get a blower. My stuff is by an RX-8 Enthusiast, for RX-8 Enthusiasts. AP is out of a boxer shop.

I supply a base boosted tune if you need one. 11 different calibrations? Why? It is because you [b]can't[b] know which one is correct - same size fits all - just pick one from 11.

I give you the ability to tune it all as required. AP does not technically come with the tuning software, but the are letting people have it "for a limited time".

AP must be 50EUR worse then. Plus - you get sCANalyser Live (which Jeff endorses himself) included. Nothing like that in AP comes close for sexiness. On today's exchange rate, I might do it for €505.

Oh - there is the small matter that you can use SPT to do more than one VIN... AP is single VIN locked at a time.

Why do I feel like I need to defend myself... Because I'm too passionate about it and have been working on all of this for 5 years, I guess that is the reason.

Cheers,
Hymee.

EinHeisserSchrei 02-11-2009 05:57 AM

OK man, point taken!

I didn't mean to come across like as though I was attacking you. Apologies if it looked that way.

Hymee 02-11-2009 01:57 PM

No worries mate. It's all good!

Cheers,
Hymee.

PS - It's a long way to Tipperary??

O'Renesis 02-11-2009 05:42 PM

As a very satisfied user of sCANalyser Live I am certainly interested in this software package.

I am obviously aware of other alternative software and dongles etc. for the RX-8 but I am not familiar nor have I used any CAN based software. I am familiar with similar (unrelated to auto industry) software packages.
I was simply looking for any information on the capabilities of "SPT" and many of my question are now answered. I still would like to hear from any users that may be able to give an unbiased opinion on things such as- Is the software user friendly? What has been the expieriences of other users with tuning? How easy is it to find and alter the very many parameters in the PCM? What support is available? etc etc.

I hope you can get your web site updated with all this info and more as I have been holding off on purchasing the competitions version until I could make an informed descision.

"it's a long way to Tipperary" naw it's just down the road:lol:

PS- this link is broke? http://www.enginepsd.com/Hymee.htm for UK and EU purchases, do we buy direct from you Hymee?

Website now updated!

You can buy off me or through Rasputin. Rasputin is offereing Tuning Services. As an experienced Powertrain Engineer with FoMoCo, I believe he is ideal for the job. Try PM'in him. His old site is down I think...

Cheers,
Mark.

Long way to Tipperary....sheeesh! Is that the best you can come up with Crocodile Dundee?!

I've a friend in Bathurst at the moment, that anywhere near Brisbane?

O'Renesis, I'm afraid I can't help you with your questions. I just got my AP on Monday and it's the first PCM Editing tool I've ever used. So I'm not in any way familiar with these fangdoodly gadgets!

My best jokes are not understood by those not familiar with real Australian humor, so only the crappy ones make it here :)

Nope, it is a long way:

but shorter if you walk...

neXib 02-12-2009 07:51 AM

Why would you call it a brick? A brick is what you call a chip that's programmed wrong so it's unusable :)

EinHeisserSchrei 02-12-2009 08:39 AM

Haha by the sounds of it that was one of your better ones

neXib, Hymee created the SPT, he can call it whatever he wants to call it :L!

Hehe, well of course, it was just a friendly question. If I built a big sea cruise ship I wouldn't call it Titanic, but that's just me then

EinHeisserSchrei 02-12-2009 11:12 AM

Yeah I know dude!

Hymee, you should start using this for a slogan or name for your SPT - REmap. Get it??

Hymee 02-12-2009 11:40 AM

REmap - Nice one.

During the early development days, we bricked one or two bricks. But they are very robust and stable nowadays.

When you plug one of them into your USB port, Windows recognises it as a "sCANalyser USB Device" :) Is that then a sCUD?? Hmmm... a Scud. Or perhaps a Scui - sCANalyser USB Interface...

Cheers,
Hymee.

Most people think you're crazy if you talk to yourself.

I think you're crazy if you answer ;)
