Oil use

Ive had the car for 6 days and I am fast approaching my 2nd refill of fuel, has anybody experienced any need to top up the oil yet?

RobDickinson 11-11-2003 10:15 AM

um, checked on my 2nd fill up, couldnt see where the oil was lol.

Will try again next fil up.

morganrogers 11-11-2003 10:16 AM

Nope. Still on the top of the stick.

It will not be horrific anyway , worry not.
My old MeganeCoupe used twice as much oil as my RX7 did ! (and the Renesis us better still).

Just keep an eye on it - suspect it will be every few weeks you actually need to do anything.

ashk: 6 days to reach the 2nd fillup - dont you like the car? ;)

It took me 4 hours of driving on the first day! Just put another 40 quid in, and I've never been happier to play the 80%+ tax.

Cheers

890 miles on the clock
To Barry island, Wales along the M4 - 23.3 mpg
back to Slough again - 21.2 mpg (had a 40 minute queue of traffic at J13/14 of the M4 - I seem to get caught in tailbacks at the moment when I've traditionally got away with it. Smartnav is looking better all the time....

car is dead dead dirty.

renegade_si 11-11-2003 04:36 PM

Bugger wrong thread again.....I'll go check the oil and get back...

renegade_si 11-11-2003 04:47 PM

BlueAdept 11-12-2003 03:30 PM

oilman 11-12-2003 03:52 PM

Blue,

The Oil is 5w-30 as recommended in the hand book.

Oilman - surely you dont have to buy oil??!

Lucozade 11-13-2003 09:49 AM

Oilman, why so much oil though. I would only expect to be topping it up between services. Why would I need to buy so much?

The Ace 11-13-2003 10:17 AM

OK, indeed you dont need to buy tons and tons of oil for the rotaries :D, but guys it is always a good idea to have a small bottle of oil, a small bottle of coolant, and a small tank of fuel (of course well protected and stabilised) in the car (any car).

I cannt tell you how many times this little bottles of oil and coolant have saved my weekends when I was away from Athens with my TII ;)

oilman 11-13-2003 11:31 AM

Lucazade,

The deal is that way to get the best price. You will use it in the end and it's always better to buy in bulk. 10 litres i.e. 10 x 1 litre bottles is not that much anyway.

The price is 1/2 of what you would pay for Castrol at Halfords.

Apologies for metrics (I didn't go to school before 1966 in Australia)

I put in a half litre after 2000 km's. My oil was down to about halfway between L and H at that point.

The oil seems to drop reasonably quickly to about halfway between L and H, but then seems to slow once it gets that far. Probably becase of the shape of the internals of the engine.

renegade_si's stick looks about right for 900 miles compared to how mine was. I rarely took mine above 7000 during break in to 1000km's and then slowly worked my way up to redline at about 1750km's. Will be interesting to see how much oil I use now I try to "redline a day to keep the mechanic away"
