Was just thinking
To UKers, where are you going to position your front number plate?
The only ones I have seen so far are US cars and they have smaller, squarer plates so they don't look too bad.
I can imagine a big rectangular UK plate slapped across the grille would spoil the whole look of the front. I guess below the grille would be too low for the law.
Anyone thought of getting a square plate?
Your thoughts?

the upper "grill" is where the plate needs to go. that area is essentially solid. the lower grill is where the air flows thru to the radiator. putting a plate there would block essential airflow to the radiator.

Personally I have no problem with the standard UK plate on the front.
There was talk at one point the Mazda were going to use an offset mount like on the Alfa 156, but I think that would have made the car look lopsided.

I agree with the square plate bugs bunny look on the front but will want my plate as small as legally possible. May go for square at the back to liven up the area.

There was an earlier thread on this. I think it suggested that the 'standard' size was not the smallest legally. Especially important considering many of us are having customed number plates containing less letters than normal.

What you will find at delivery is that the car has a big ugly nearly square plate holder for Japanese plates. We had ordered personalised plates, with the choice of the front plate being a neat "slim line". It looked dreadful when it was first installed! We got our Mazda dealer to cut down the bracket to fit our plate better, snd it sits high up on the grill. With our personalised plates you have the choice of backgrounds and letter colours. Ours is black with silver letters. It fits in well.

I'm going to see how much grief I get from having no plate on the front. I did it before with my MX-5 for 2 years, and the worst I got was a couple of stops. Carried a plate behind the seat with some "worn" sticky pads, and just said it had fallen off and that I would get it sorted.
Seemed to work. Depends how much you can put up with the potential hassle. But I think it looks sooo much better without a plate at all, that it's worth giving it a go! :p
