My is200 has developed a problem was wondering if any of you got any ideas. It will have to goto a garage but wondering if anyone can forewarn me of the pending cost or what the problem could be.


Acceleration - or lack off is the issue car "free" revs even when in gear. Dont think its the clutch because changing gears is easy and fine and i "feel" the change in power output ..... still.

Takes almost 5 minutes to get to 70 at the expense of hitting 5500 revs. Was wondering if you guys had any ideas. Someone said its not the clutch its a "thing" which is stuck. (had the problem some months ago but disappeared before it really gave reason to be concerned.)

Same can be said about your wallet.
Sorry I know when cars misbehave they can be a pain.
Best bet is to get it on the diagnostics at the Lexus garage cos it could be anything if it is like my BMW....

CW007, I've heard that Lexus are quick and efficient, at diagnosing a fault (JD Poer survey and all that). Not sure about the cost. Is it under warranty or low mileage ?

You shouldn't even be thinking of driving it with this kind of problem!!! stop right now and call the garage before you do any more damage!

As an example ... I had a Citroen that had broken a valve spring and felt the same ... I was lucky that I didn't end up with a valve hitting the piston ... now that could have been really expensive

If the engine is free reving when the car is in gear then the clutch is buggered.

Could be a knackred seal in the clutch assembly has leaked oil onto the clutch plates. - solution is new clutch.

Could be a problem with the clutch release bearings - which probably also means a new clutch as you have to dismantle the assemly to get at it.

Buy some vasoline and take it like a man.......

Clutch plate buggered. Or release bearing is sticking.

Cluch will cost about 70 quid from dealer.

However its the 3 to 4 hours labour that will kill you cost wise.:(

I've done it myself on my front wheel drive MX-6 took about 1 1/2 days on my own, even with a pit and hoist in the garage.

But whatever you do stop driving the car now, if the clutch wears too far, the clutch coating can disintergrate, and that is a very very bad thing if your on the move.

Happend to me about 2 years ago. Slipped in fifth for a few days then fourth for two, but then it was Friday so i thought I'd risk it till the weekend. On the Friday I started in fourth but was down to first about a mile from home, then something went bang and the car was locked in gear! Luckily I was on a quite stretch of road while it happened.

been the drive for the past two days, now have to try and drive it 22 miles to the lexus dealership in Hatfield.

ARG!!!!! when it rains it pours...

just cost me £487.72 to have the clutch replaced. That didnt include the flywheel which would have cost another 800 quid.

GOD they are expensive when something goes wrong!!!
