petrol in ireland

Hi all, I have a question for use.... has any of you been using the apple green petrol... i was using it for months and my car has been running ****.. Also I just had to replace the coils and plugs; I don’t no if the fuel is what caused the damaged. When I got my car back it was running great. But I had just filled it in a shell garage.
I then just filled it again yesterday with apple petrol and its running **** again, There is no difference when driving it normal, but when you drive it hard the engine just don’t sound right and is lacking power at high revs.... I dont think i will be filling it again with this crap.Has anyone else had this problem????

As you know already, the coils are known to cause problems anyway. With regards to the petrol, as far as I can see apple is the cheapest petrol around these parts. I know of a station of theirs in Urlingford, KK and it's by far the cheapest around. Maybe the fact that it's so cheap means it's *****?? Is it 95 Octane?

I can't be fully sure but if you just check your coils and plugs you could eliminate them as being a cause?

Does Apple Green petrol contain a percentage of Ethanol? I have heard that Ethanol is not good for the rotary, but there again I have also read that it is good for the rotary on this forum
Anyone care to comment on the pros and cons of ethanol in petrol, which I think is called E85, but again information here in Ireland is scarce.

yeah, not sure if i can confirm this but i generally try and avoid the use of tesco and applegreen as they offer cheaper fuel by adding stuff (ie ethanol) Would love to put some of that super unleaded stuff in my rx8 to see what she can do but can't seem to see it anymore (the 97 octane stuff). Think topaz add stuff as well now with their 'cleaner fuels'

Oh yes! 97 Octane sounds good!!!! With regard to Topaz, I don't know if they add stuff but their petrol is perfect. I usually get my fuel from them and I have never encountered any problems at all!

Ok lads sorry about the petrol request, I don’t think the green petrol caused a problem with my engine, I will say though I do get a lot more mileage from shell than apple….I just had my car in joeduffy today and it has failed an compression test... So they have asked Mazda to give me a new engine, waiting in hope........... They said they have replace 7 engines in Ireland in the past with the same problem, But they were all 03's. They have never had the problem with the year 05. He said they changed something in 05 to stop the problem happening. Please god I will get one too, the guy I am dealing with says there is no guaranty they will, with times they way they are at the moment. If not I don’t no what to do..............................

Sorry to hear about your engine. What is the mileage on you RX8? It sounds very premature for an '05 engine to fail. That sort of thing makes me very nervous about keeping my RX8 any longer, but it is a very difficult market for used cars at present. Definitely not a good indicator as to the longevity of the Renesis engine.

Angry

How r you... My Head is wrecked over this. There is only 67,000k on it, which is a bit over 40,000 miles I think. To me that is very little for any engine to fail. I just spent a 1000 euro on it giving it new coils and plugs then a full service and a few other modes. Just to let you know the problem. The car still drives fine and some days still is full of power, but other days when I go over 5000 rpm it sound a bit like a diesel, Rattle! What is wrong is only the front rotary is failing on compression, but not all the time it seems, and if it fails compression it’s fucked and needs a new engine. That’s what I have been told anyway. But at the moment the car is driving fine and I am still using it every day without a problem,, I would have never knew about this problem only for I drive it hard most of the time...,. I will keep you posted if they give me a new engine or not... I am praying they do...

Does this mean that if any RX8 engine fails a compression test that there is a POSIBILITY that Mazda might give us a new engine regardless of year and warranty???

For an answer to that we will have to wait on Mazda's answer to irishdesolo's problem, fingers crossed and the best of Irish luck etc. etc.

It Happened, sound!!!! Sound!!! Sound!!!

Ok lads the update!! The answer is yes it did fail a compression test and Joe Duffy Mazda did do it the right way... Because I don’t think Mazda would just give you a new engine on some guy's word in a garage... Yes that is correct I did say a new engine, I got a phone call today of them, they said they have been giving the ok for a new engine from Mazda; I am over the f n moon.......
They have ordered the brand new motor for me today and said they will have the car for 2-3 days to install... And guess what? I don’t have to pay for any parts or labor...Deadly!!! Everything is covered; Remember my car is a 05 and is out of warranty. The only thing I have to pay for is the oil.
I was told Mazda don’t cover coils plugs and oil, But I only got my coils and plugs done last week so I don’t need to replace them,
There was only 43,000 miles on it so I think this was the main reason they said yes to a new motor. I did read on a American post from some guy who got his engine replace for the same reason, That Mazda will replace a engine which fails compression up to 100,000 miles. However the guy in Joe Duffy said Mazda don’t have to replace it and they only replace it out of curtseys.
The current engine is working fine, only sometimes it sounds bad when I go over 5000 rpm and doesn’t have as much power as it should. But most of the time its fine, only today on the way home from work, after I was told I was getting a new engine. I clocked 100mph and it still had plenty in it. (Joke if any Garda are reading this) SO the old engine is working fine at the moment...
Hopefully after I get this new engine it will be the end of my problems. I will keep you lot posted if anything changes. Thanks for the support lads, And thanks to Joe Duffy Mazda for pusing it for me. If Anyone is worried about compression i would bring it to them.

Thumbs up

irishdesolo, that's great news on your engine. I hope this one lasts a lot longer this time. I have started premixing in the hope that this will give my engine all the lubrication it really needs.
