Unbelievably, I have just found out it’s now an offence to display anything in your car window. This includes your car road tax. But does this refer to your windscreen only? Are we supposed to display the car tax on a side window? :hahano:

I found this out from my insurance company. Not wanting to believe them I asked the Road Transport Office and they confirmed what I was told. So I stopped a copper and asked him and he’s told me yes do not display it in your window OR anything else. :suspect:

However my friend was told by a policeman over the weekend that they know nothing about such a law! :mdrmed:

I try so hard to conform to all the Cyprus laws, rules and regulations - but this one has me baffled!!!

Nicosp76 - can you please advise us of what is what in this regard?

Janalld

You don't have to display anything in your window. everything is in the computerized system that the police have.

Welcome to the Republic of ...Kiosks , my friend. This new announcement/instruction is not really clear. I saw contrandicting articles ; one saying that you are not allowed to have anything on your windshield (and the driver/passenger windows also) BESIDES road tax and any other document the road dept office might ask but another was saying that you are not allowed to have anything at all.... go figure.

I would suggest to put your road tax along with the rest of the car's paper in the glove box. As it was mentioned in the previous reply, the police has the equipment to check if your road tax is renewed just by the licence place of the car , so there is no reason to have it in display anymore.

OK guys - I expected to see a post as to the protest in Nicosia yesterday! :scratchhe I live in Paphos and for a number of reasons could not attend to support yesterday.

An on-line pettition was suggested but I do not see any sign of one - come on you protest organisers, I would have thought that this would have been one of the first things you would have organised - remember guys - Action Speaks Louder Than Words! :Peace:

As far as I am aware I am the only female RX8 owner in Cyprus - and I am waiting for the men to take the appropriate action............................ after all I am 56 so you younger bucks need to take the lead and gain signatures and contact the newspapers both Greek and English and contact the radio stations both Greek and English - LETS GET MORE ACTION DONE................... :yesnod:

I started seeing more women driving RX8 nowadays rather than guys!!
My wife is driving one Yellow RX8 since I bought it as a 2nd car for myself. The moment she drove it, she did NOT want to get out of the driving seat!

PS. Only had to learn/adjust about the clutch as it is mostly made for guys rather than women.

FINALLY, BE SURE THAT WE WILL NEVER ALLOW THE GOVERNMENT TO INCREASE ROADTAX. IF YOU ARE STILL UNABLE TO FOLLOW THE GREEK WEBSITE FOR THE OFFICIAL CYPRUS RX8 CLUB, LET US KNOW AS WE NEED TO MOVE FASTER WITH THE ADDING ENGLISH LANGUAGE ON THE SITE.

Anthi Diakos 05-21-2010 10:18 AM

True, no need to display the road tax disc.

Up to now, the Government did not place any effort to check cars on the road if they had renew their license. Rumours say that they were happy with the renewal rate that they decide not to harass us. First of all, they could check any RX8 owner who most likely they will find many of them, not to have renew their roadtax. We have not heard any RX8 owner posting on the officail RX8 website about police checking on an RX8.

Hi Anthi

Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee make it easier to view things in English on the Cyprus site as I am still struggling to find how to find anything that is in English.

Any update on the Cyprus road tax situation please as there is nothing on this site about the present situation.

Thanks for the responses re displaying things on the car windows in Cyprus - much appreciated guys.

Are we stuck with a charge of E.514.00 or was something achieved by the court action? Please provide an update guys as I am not a happy chappy with the present rate just as I am sure you guys feel the same! Anyone with an update please?

Does anyone know how to get rebate for car tax

nicosp76 04-09-2012 02:39 AM

Assuming you were the onwer of the car when the high amount was paid, you should have got a letter by now explaining about the refund.

Regardless,
visit a road dept. office (TOM) and ask to get the relevant form to claim your refund.
It will be an "authorization" form with your bank account details, to refund the money to , along with the details of the car etc.

Hello,i`m new here and as well in Cyprus. I moved businesswise to the island and i`m lucky here so far BUT there is a problem with my new owned RX 8 i bought in the UK and shipped it over to Cyprus. The UK Logbook said 2616 cc, which is totally stupid but based on an agreemnet between MAZDA UK and the british government. I received a confirmation from Mazda UK, saying the cars engine capacity is definitely 1308 cc. The problem is, that the excise duties will be counted on what is written on the logbook. In this case i would have to pay nearly 4000 Euro only for the excise duties instead of 300 Euros based on 1308 cc!
Do you think the confirmation from Mazda is enough to register the car here in Paphos?
Thanks for your help

That's how the UK defines a wankel (even against FIA's displacement adjustments...).
Since you are in the european union you have some roads to follow and weapons to choose from:

See how that car is classified in your country and report what's written in your title as a mistake. They should be able to fix it.

Declare your title lost and ask for a fresh one before actually registering the car (longer road, still valid). They should print it based on the car's characteristics and local legislation.
In this case make sure that you have ALL the sale documents in your possession, it's a tricky road and they may think the car was stolen.

Start a long and probably useless fight after providing your competent offices with all the informations needed. Including titles from other countries etc.

That's what you can do, and the order i'd follow if i had to face a similar problem.

It breaks my heart to post this, but I am selling my beautiful RX8. I got married in May this year and we really cannot afford to run 2 cars. My hubby has a 30 min drive to and from work and he has a Ford Focus diesel, which is more economical so my girl has to go.

She is a 4 door Coupe, 1308cc, manufactured in 2004 in Japan, yellow exterior and black and grey interior. She has a manual 6 gear + reverse transmission (I hate automatics) and she is in immaculate condition. As far as I am aware, I am the second owner, the first was in Japan. I bought her in Paphos in Sept 2007 and she has been well cared for and is like new both inside and out. I have never used them but she has racing seatbelts in both front seats. She is taxed till Jan 2013. The genuine mileage is 38,089. Selling for Euros 11,000 or nearest offer. I don't want her to go to anyone who will just "thrash" her. She is my beautiful baby and I want her to go to a really good home, which is why I am advertising here.

For further information please e-mail janis_elaine@cytanet.com.cy or contact me on 990 55 823. I am in Tala, Paphos.
