Just spoke to Mazda UK about this...

... and the person I spoke to went away for 2 minutes and then came back on the phone to tell me they didn't know if the RX-8 will be there or not, and they're waiting to hear.

I pointed out that Goodwood is this Friday and she said "Yes, I know".

I'll phone again later in the week as it would be a good chance for a family outing to see the RX-8.

GoodWood RX-8

It's there... but it's got 'Formula Woman' all over it. Doh!

Good news.

Might be worth an outing if wife and kids can have a sit in it.

Is it just sat on display or can the public get near it ?

Thanks.

RX-8 at Goodwood

Went to Goodwood today, and saw the RX-8 (same blue jap-spec one) stickered up in Forumla Woman livery. Had another sit inside. Can't wait to get it, still glad I chose blue!

Me too. Very helful (and atractive!) lady from Mazda opened it up and took the engine cover off etc.

The car was getting a lot of attention when I went past in the afternoon. Some very positive comments.

I was there today (scorcher!) enjoying some VIP hospitality courtesy of the lovely Nissan (nice!) and I soon found the RX-8. It's our old friend the blue all right, looking a little worse for wear (the driver side door control panel was coming off) and plastered with 'Formula Woman' graffiti. The Mazda rep told me that this was the only way to get the car to Goodwood. It was too expensive for Mazda to have a stand (!) but one of the FW co-sponsors agreed to have the RX-8 on their stand. I got to sit in it again and the reps were very helpful.

Much to my amazement the 350Z looked good today. Seeing it on the ground rather than a stand and in a different colour (grey) was a revelation. It still looks odd from some angles and I still prefer the RX-8 but there's no doubting that the 350Z is a nice car. They had a blue Z there too (the colour I ordered) and were I sticking with Nissan then I'd be switching to grey immediately, a world of difference. If the same happens with the RX-8 then I'll be very happy (ie: if it looks substantially better in grey than blue). One 350Z was actually parked in the 'Supercar' paddock which seemed a little excessive. Similarly the Porsche Carrera GT is nowhere near as nice in reality as the pictures suggest. It may drive well but it looks slightly cheap in places, particularly the rear lights.
In conclusion: because Mazda had not put any effort into promoting the RX-8 at this event (I dont see why they should to be honest, they can't fulfill the current orders yet) there was little interest in the car.

PS: Here's the REAL star of the show and the car I now intend to buy instead of the RX-8. Apparently it's VERY fast, apart from the last two feet before the finish...
