Free 7 days insurance from Mazda, great for taxing your car...

If you, like me, are silly and haven't actually bought your insurance yet cos you're waiting until more insurers add the car to the system, Mazda Insurance will cover you for 7 days for FREE (in absence of other insurance being in place).

Why is this useful?

Well, I went today to T W Whites to sign the registration form to allow the dealer to register the car to me as the first keeper.

I haven't done my insurance yet (am going to do it over the weekend I think - Norwich Union direct through Confused.com seem to be the best as they are doing an extra £25 cash back by going through confused at the moment!!!) BUT the dealer of course needs a cover note so that they can get the Tax!

So, I called Mazda Insurance on 0800 015 7559 and although their quote was £300 more expensive than NUD they gave me a reference that the dealer can use to print off a cover note for these 7 days there and then, which obviously can be used to get the tax.

Great Idea Mazda, and well done the superb Rob from T W Whites for helping sort this out - even though there were people there wanting to buy an RX-8.

He he, there was a bloke there who had a BMW and 'wanted to do a deal' to get the car, cos he wanted to wait until the car arrived in the flesh before deciding he wanted one. Poor bloke, he doesn't get it. He thinks he can get a discount. Ha Ha!

I'm confused - what doc did you have to sign for it to be first registered to you?

Ed, I did a post yesterday about this!!!

Its the Vehicle Registration Certificate. T W Whites sent it out to me yesterday. - Jo Anderson sent it to me. I think she was there today. Either way, a nice dark haired girl was at Weybridge today!

I had a chat with my dealer yesterday about this.

In order to tax the car they must have an insurance certificate with the car's number plate on it. This gives you about a week to get that from your insurers.

If the postal strike escalates then this could take more than a week. I asked my dealer what to do in that situation.

And yes, if you can't get your own insurance documents through in time, Mazda will do an insurance quote over the phone and allow the dealer to print off a 7-day covernote. This is enough to tax the car.
