Anyone Had One Of These??

Got this in the post.

My invite to see the car and a champagne reception.

Think I'll enjoy the champers, sit in the car, pretend it's mine and then cancel my order and get slung out!!;)

At least they're trying, very trying!

One small problem..........

It's 3.5 hours drive each way for me so if it finishes at 9.30pm I should be home about........... well late!! Hope it's worth it.

Any photo requests if permitted?

Cheers
Oilman

And the rest...........

Oilman,

As I am due there on the 7th, ie the day before you, my invite should arrive tomorrow. (using Mazda logic that is)

Failing that I shall be on the phone to my dealer tomorrow.

Chris

Not me:(

Lensman 07-02-2003 03:39 AM

I won't get one because I sent them a nasty letter. ;)

renegade_si 07-02-2003 03:45 AM

mines not come yet :( but then again, it is on the 14th...still just under 2 weeks to go yet!

cw007 07-02-2003 04:38 AM

This should be coming from the dealers via Mazda though. Hence all the recent phone calls from dealers grovelin to make up numbers.

ChrisW 07-02-2003 04:41 AM

I don't want to get paranoid here, but the description in the invitation says "limited to 9000 revolutions per minute".

The red line is at 9000 but the rev limiter is supposed to kick in at 9500, isn't that right? This affects the performance tests because they change up just before the rev limiter.

Is this another change related to the power reduction?

RobDickinson 07-02-2003 07:05 AM

Chris , I dont think your supposed to bounce of the rev limiter by default.

'Red line' is probably the maximum your expected to rev to normaly...

ChrisW 07-02-2003 07:42 AM

Yes, but the rev limiter is usually set higher than the red line and I'm sure I've seen a figure of 9500 quoted somewhere. If this has come down does this mean the red line is now 8500?

cw007 07-02-2003 07:55 AM

At this moment in time just drink all there champagne and fill the boot of the car with the bottles left they aint lookin at.

A Don Peri 62 is a particularly good year....

Drank gallons of the stuff courtesy of mr Harrods himself at a family members birthday bash a year ago. Even met Mr Fayid or what ever his name is. Alongside a few other TV celebs. (wifes uncle has a few bob works in the media and ownes a few newspapers - so all the celebs come running out of the woodwork
)

renegade_si 07-02-2003 07:56 AM

Stop it, all of you!!!!! ;)

Its just a marketing tool. No offence, but most marketing people will say "oooh the red mark thing starts at 9000 we'll say that on the card"

or even "9500 looks naff, lets just say 9000 as its a nice round number."

Come on guys, things are looking +ve (ish) after the obviously pooey news about October delivery, its probably nothing.

We've just seen a superb review from that channel4 website (even if the pics are German LHD!) which is probably the first from the reivews that will no doubt come streaming out over the next month.

Things are looking up (apart from the weather, its peeing it down in sunny Slough)

RobDickinson 07-02-2003 08:00 AM

Nope, the red line is still 9000, rev limiter is 9500.

Manufacturers dont talk about the rev limiter as the top revs, redline = top revs, limiter for engine safety...

Hmmm... I'm still not convinced.

The wording seems quite deliberate "limited to 9000 revolutions per minute". "limited" is not the kind of word you put in an advert if you can help it, eg. US ad which says "it spins to 9000 rpm" (sounds positive, emphasising how high it revs).

And the spec on the US website has an entry for "Red Line" which is 9000. The UK website spec omits this, but the text refers to "... a 9000 rpm limit".

My guess is that as a result of the power reduction, the Euro spec engine now revs to 500 rpm less than the US engine (we already know the power peak is at 8200, down from 8500). And that Mazda have tried to disguise this by keeping the numbers the same and changing the wording from "red line" to "rev limit".

Maybe I'm being unfair to Mazda to make this assumption, but I honestly think they should be assumed to be guilty until proven innocent on this kind of thing after the way they failed to inform us properly about the power reduction.

BTW I'm not negative overall, especially after reading the excellent 4Car review. But I don't think we should just ignore the negatives, even if they are only a small part of an overall positive picture.

Just spoke to my dealer about these roadshows who said that the invites were being sent directly from Mazda. I told him that I thought the invite was coming from the dealer but he insisted that this was not the case. He suggested that I ring the RX8 helpline.

I've just come off the phone from them and they confirmed that it was the dealer that should have invited me, they also told me that the deadline for invitations had closed so I won't be going. If the car in Bristol turns out to be a Euro spec model rather than the blue pre-prod I'll be very unhappy.

The only good thing that the women on the helpline told me was that I can change which dealer my pre-order is with without affecting the order - which I'm pretty sure I'm going to do after making my current dealer (FRF Mazda Swansea) squirm a bit.:p

rael 07-04-2003 07:18 AM

Problem could be that the dealer only has so many invites (mine had 3 for 12 orders) so first orders are invited.....could be unless your dealer just does not like you.;)

My dealer said that Mazda were sending out the invites so either he's clueless or a liar!:D

And he probably won't like me soon when I change dealerships.:p

c170673 07-04-2003 08:28 AM

My dealer said that Mazda were sending out the invites but I hadn't got one because I was a late addition to the list.

It was however, up to the dealers to provide Mazda with a list of attendees.

Road show

Just spoke to my dealer and was told that my name had been put forward but as yet he hadn't had any confirmation.

Apparently there will only be one hour between 2pm and 3pm to view the car.
