Alll dealers to have 1 demo and one showroom car this year
Since I have not heard from my dealer in over 6 weeks I decided to call him for an update.
I asked him about my book- said he would look into it but wasn't sure if there were anymore.I said there were supposed to be at least 1000 and I was definately one of those, he said maybe some had gone to dealers
Next I asked for a date update - he said he thought mine would be around November as he wasn't getting his demo until early October and his showroom car was coming around the same time. I expressed my disbelief at the fact that he would have 2 cars for the dealership before any for customers. He explained that a large no. of dealers were going to a dealer launch event aty Silverstone where apperently they will get to "experience" the cars and pick up their Demo car which they will drive back.
They will also receive a car specifically for the showroom for people to sit in.
He said Mazda are getting the first 1000 cars in October and they tell him the split is 250 dealer demo's, 250 dealer showroom cars (neither car is allowed to be sold) and the next 500 for pre orders (of which mine doesn't feature in as it is more likely preorder between 500 and 1000.
I said would the forst 500 be the first 500 ordereed or would it depend on spec to which he said he didn't know but he has been told that low power cars have now been put back to delivery in Jan or after.
I have to say I am somewhat baffled at how the story keeps changing, my contact may of course be completely incorrect but i can't see how he would have such detailed information if he was just making it up????

I actually like the idea that the dealers will have demo and display cars THAT THEY CANNOT SELL.
It will massively raise the profile for the car, thus increasing the overall number of sales. But it will NOT allow the situation as in the US where Joe Public can walk in from the street and take one home that day.
Only getting 500 cars to customers in the first batch is a bit poo though. (Although being EP299 and having a red hi-power could work well for me :D )

Just spoken to my dealership who informed me
That the dealership will get a demo car (only 1 car - no showroom) at the same time as there first pre-order customers recieve there car.
How pre-order is defined remains to be seen. I asked the question "what exactly defines the pre-order cut off date for qualification to the first batch of cars ?"
Answer, well you certainly qualify as having ordered back in Feb should be entitled to a first refusal. Still nothing you could write in stone.
