07 rx8 suddenly needs to have the accelerator pressed in order to start

Car was starting fine, then went from three cranks to start to not wanting to start, I've changed the battery recently because of this, and done all the necessary procedures, car is running well once going, but I have to press accelerator to start, I'm going to start looking at the fuel system next but would like to know if anyone has come across this before to save me time, money etc, also sat navigation is in English but on street entry, destination entry all the places seem to be in France, eg la grande rue etc inst
end of united kingdom destinations, if anyone could help with any of these problems I would be grateful thanks, sat navigation since battery change was fine before

Do you have to press the gas to the floor or just a little? How old are the spark plugs and ignition coils?

Accelerator pressing

Not sure only had this one a couple of months, I only have to press the accelerator a quarter of the way down, so was thinking fuel problems, thanks for the reply

Ignition failures are very common and serious, have the coils, plugs and wires replaced if uncertain of their condition. You may want to get an OBD reader and see what the fuel trims are. This could be as simple as a vacuum leak. Might save you time and money.

What Loki said.

Bad ignition components lead to dead engines pretty quickly. Just plunk down the $250 now for new plugs/coils/wires to save yourself a $2500 bill for a rebuild later.

Most of the time, I recommend replacing all the fluids immediately after buying a used car. When that used car is a RX-8, I also recommend the ignition system. It's easy to do yourself and worth the expense.

The fact that it works fine after it's started makes me wonder. Maybe it's a dirty throttle body that is sticking. You might want to clean that and make sure the connector is seated properly.
