Crank case back pressure issues

Currently having issues with my top mount turbo set up. The oil pan is pushing oil up my drain line an flooding my center housing causing sever smoking an oil leaking out of the housing. Center an on to the hot an cold side. My question is how to solve this problem. Relocation of drain line, inline scavenge pump, place to vent crank case, or what ever other solutions there my be. I'm Sure emsril won't address this issue with there kits so I'm gonna.

You should post this up in the major horsepower section. providing pictures of your feed/return setup might help as well.

Oh, and Howzit Brah!! :)

Hello,

Is this happening on one of our kits? We have never had a case of this issue in 4.5 years making the kit. But we are definitely interested in finding a solution asap.

First off, what lead you to the conclusion that the issue is the return line getting overwhelmed with return oil flow and not a different issue like the oil seal on the turbo letting go or something else of the sort? I am not questioning your judgment, just want to get to the bottom of the problem ;)

Second, is everything hooked up exactly like on our manual and using the included components? The reason I ask is that if a line was replaced or the turbo is different, or the inlet/outlet flanges are different (not restrictor perhaps) then it could cause an imbalance in the system causing too much oil to go into the turbo overwhelming the return line.

I will add that our feed line is -4an and our return line is -10an which should more than be able to take the flow...hmmm...do you think you may have a blow by issue in your engine? One way to test this is to open your oil cap with the ending running, there should be little to no pressure change, even when revving it lightly. If when revving it lightly, pressure build up on the oil fill neck then your issue might be with your engine.

Please answer these questions and we will do the best we can to find a solution for you. You can also call our main line at 612-605-9845.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Chris

I was wondering if the stock 13b in the rx-8 is strong enough to handle 19 psi generated by the esmiril kit. I have a reliable source with a career of experience that says you need forged parts to handle more than 10 psi reliably. Let me know.

Well I jus rebuilt the turbo again this is the third time. I've up graded the turbo that comes with. It's been machined to fit a 60-1 an a full 360 barring an liquid cooled center housing. Still running the stock fittings that came with the kit. It's clocked right by the way. Also it's causing oil to seep out to through the housing on the hot side on to the center housing. I'm only runnin 8 psi an of now tell I fix it but never ran over 14 psi. I'll upload videos an or pics soon. For scrutiny. Thank u for your time an knoladge cause it has me stumped an race season about to start an It's smoking alot.

Please post the pics and I will help anyway I can. The one thing to keep in mind is that what keeps the turbo from spilling oil is the center cartridge with the shaft and shaft seals, this being an "upgraded" unit means that some of these components where changed which introduces the possibility of human error because they are not the parts that were originally a part of this turbo. Rebuilding a turbo and or upgrading it internally completely changes things.

When you post pics I will go through them and reply to you asap. Worse case scenario we could hook you up with one of our new precision turbo billet units :)

Chris
