Epitroch kits

A few kits from the first batch are still available at the link below. We are in the process of putting the next batch together and expect them to go fast as the weather improves and folks start getting their cars ready for the driving/racing/car show season. Get yours soon!

We have collected the survey results on what oil people use with their sohn adapters and will post the results soon as well as some other research.

Cheers,

Dan

I got my kit....I am a fussy engineer that never gets anything I like ,there is always something that makes me think...darn it I should have just did it myself.

But this kit is good.

This kit is nicely done...the flat plate, has threaded inserts that you don't see in the pictures..
The fasteners have washers under their heads, and are metric...I hate putting English stuff on a metric car.
The hose is the proper hose for use with oil...

While you could do it yourself cheaper....for the fit and finish of this kit and the fact that its done, makes it a no brainer.

I look forward to other products that you guys put together...its nice to hit the easy button, and have it truly be the easy button!

ShellDude 03-06-2014 08:14 PM

Specifically, what hose is being used?

Epitroch 03-06-2014 08:30 PM

Moliver--thank you for the very kind review. We are Air Force trained engineers--glad we were able to please. No higher compliment than one from another engineer!

ShellDude: We went with a tygon/excelon tubing. As described by the manufacturer: "It is routinely used to handle gasoline, kerosene, heating oils, cutting compounds and glycol-based coolants. Max working temp 165°F. UV and ozone resistant." Its also translucent yellow so you can visually ensure the line is full.

It's going to melt and further yellow and eventually turn brittle. A couple of us have already had this debate and demonstrated the eventual results. Go with a nice weaved high temperature hose. Your customers will thank you for it even more in the long run.

Epitroch 03-06-2014 08:52 PM

Thanks Shelldude. We'll look into the option you mention...anything to ensure we have the best quality product out there.

That said, I've had the tygon/excelon in my 2005 RX-8 now for over a year and it has not melted nor turned brittle.

others said similarly but it is somewhat dependent on climate. I was originally going to use the same tubing you're selling then at the last moment swapped to a re-enforced one after seeing the results from a couple other members that used this setup on our own before you branded it.

Assuming folks are not running SS lines from the OMP (I actually removed mine and went back to the stock plastic ones) that should be more than sufficient for measuring flow…

There's also the obvious piece of watching the big bottle empty between fill ups. Some of us run some crazy high OMP flow rates via various ECU tuning tweaks. Under super heavy load I can drain mine in a little over 1 1/2 fill ups as an example :)

Epitroch 03-06-2014 09:16 PM

Wow...Assuming you are also using a 1.5Qt reservoir, that consistent level of high load operation would generate correspondingly high levels of waste heat. Makes it clear why you would choose an even more rugged tubing.

Thanks again for your feedback Shelldude. We are always looking for constructive feedback. Do you mind posting a link to a source of this weave-wrapped tubing?
Cheers,

I'm FI and I'm using the same bottle from the (assumedly) same source you're buying yours from (USPlastics).

You've done a great job of bringing it all together. If you'd offered this a year ago I'd have jumped on it and would've been able to avoid fabricating my own backplate.

I was wondering about the removal of the stock pump from the stock washer tank. Mine seems to be a little snug. I didn't want to try and twist too hard and break something. Do you have any specific pics or tips for removing the stock pump?

ShellDude 03-23-2014 09:40 AM

just twist it and it'll eventually come out. Mine came out after a couple minutes of messing with it. I don't always have the gentlest hand either.

Epitroch 03-23-2014 09:58 AM

Shelldude is correct. Focus on rotating it first to loosen it up prior to appying force to put it out. It will be a combination of twisting and pulling to break it loose.

Please refrain from using the hose nipple as a leverage point. it is susceptible to bending and snapping.

Please let me know if you have any questions and feel free to contact me using the email address in the kit's instructions.
