Suspension help.
Im currently sitting on Espelir springs with the OEM shocks. Very good springs, love them and all but im kinda looking for a bigger drop now...
Situation: - somewhat on a budget ( not in the Flex, JIC, Zeal, HKS price range) - dont track the car - dont do extreme driving - just want to go lower - dont want to go iwith just aftermarket springs that give me a bigger drop because they would eventually bust the OEM shocks - no need for dampening adj since i dont track my car - height adj also isnt a must have since i would set the drop i want and leave it as is Question: - Are the TEIN Basics my answer? (heard theyre abit on the stiff side for normal driving?) - What other setups do you recommend? |
I would have to agree that the Tein Basics are the best option for what you want to do. No other spring I'm aware of goes notably lower than the Espelirs (making spring/shock combos irrelevant if lower is what you want), and there really aren't any other good, cheap coilovers for the RX-8 yet. JIC will have the FLT-A1 available in about March, and it'll be around $1100-1200 I believe. Otherwise though, Tein is it. But that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Tein Basics are a very good 'set-it-and-forget-it' suspension kit. Obviously, they also give you the ability to adjust ride height, but even if you never use that feature you end up with a great quality, well-matched spring and shock combination. The high spring rates do scare some folks off thinking the ride will be too hard, but in reality they ride very nicely. Firmer than stock, but they don't make the ride harsh by any means. They just about eliminate squat and dive, and reduce body roll quite a bit. We have run them on one of our cars for several months and have been nothing but happy with them. The only real trick to them is to be sure you do an alignment after you get the height set to where you want. Additionally, you won't be able to go a lot lower in the rear than your current springs; perhaps only a few mm in fact. But in front you can go as low as -2.3", which is quite a bit. I suspect it would be the look you are wanting. Just FYI, we'll have a set coming off one of our cars that we'll be selling used. They are in good shape, and will be sold fairly cheaply. Decided to get some shocks and install both together. Like BIU, I'm just looking for the drop, that is all. I've heard Koni's are a good match with the Tein S-Techs.
