RX8 drifting.......suitable parts???
Had my rx8 around 6 months now and want to use that rear-wheel drive to its full potential!
Basically if i start drifting alot from now on, what would be suitable parts to get for the engine to prevent any unwanted failures, due to more wear n tear?! |
Set your car up for track then mess with the suspension to get it to drift
|
You should also do a quick search here to see what the reliability mods are.
Be ready to waste some money to keep it going as well. |
I've been trying to get my 2004 RX-8 GT MT sideways also. I would probably recommend looking into getting a performance clutch, lightweight flywheel, and performance exhaust. The clutch because mine heats up and wears out really fast. After a few quick shifts and clutch kicks my clutch pedal and shifter starts vibrating when pressing/releasing clutch and shifting. The flywheel to get the rpms moving faster. The exhaust to hear the car and adds power. Be careful when buying parts for power like intake or exhaust, some decrease power. I am in the process of finding what to look for and trying to figure the best parts for drifting for me. If anyone has any RX-8 drifting incite from experience, please unload!

Stock rx8s will go sideways just fine. I would however, recommend upgrading the cooling system. Drifting tends to create quite a bit of engine heat (reduced airflow from, you know, not going straight). Practice is the biggest key to get it going sideways. Try the different methods/speeds and keep the rpms UP. Like, as high as possible. As you, the driver, get better, then start bumping up the power, suspension, etc. 2 way LSD never hurts, either.

beef up the cooling system, as mentioned, your airflow isn't as the engineers designed it, then at the track you do a lot of waiting around in idle, which causes more heat than normal.
one o' dem grab handles would be ideal for drifting compared to the spaceship control Mazda put in as the stock ebrake |

coilovers, clutch, done. stock cooling system will do just fine, hydro e brakes are a waste of money when stock works just fine, and you will never make anything over stock power N/A so if you want more power budget for boost. it would also be wise to look into motor mounts as the stock ones collapse very easily especially when you abuse it on the track, I have the BHR motor mounts and love them

Stock e-brake dont work at high speeds just saying.

yes it does. ive done 85MPH + e brake entries. its all about what pads you use and of course getting the cable set right, too tight and it wont work too well, too loose and it wont work at all.
|
+1 for coilovers, clutch, and practice. Upgraded cooling systems are never a bad idea for extended performance driving, be it straight or sideways. If we are talking necessary, well maybe not, but you don't need coilovers to drift, it just makes it easier. Better cooling will always be less wear and tear, as will proper tires, etc. I don't know how much less, I don't claim it is enough to be cost effective, but better safe than sorry in this case IMO.

That looks pretty fun, nice vids. Fan of that back to back s drift that happened in the middle of the video.

Has anyone tried putting an Ls1 motor in their rx8 yet???
|
nice info in here thanks!!

haha I dont have any good ones from that track, but heres a 75mph + clutch kick entry from when I first started drifting!

Probably stock. The stock suspension on the RX-8 is top-tier.
