Recommended 5 speed performance clutches for drift use.
 

I have a 192hp 5 speed 06 RX8 which after my last session I fried the clutch, i'm now looking at replacing it, but am trying to figure what type of clutch to buy.

Ideally i'd like to keep the price to around £300-350, i'm in the UK and would ideally like something available domestically.

I run a completely stock setup, although am debating going for a wet nitrous kit in future.

Is it a false economy going for a performance clutch with my power level, or would I be wise to upgrade given the heavy use of it during drifting, or just stick with OEM stock?

I'm seeing lots of options and use of stage X clutch, but I really don't know what i'm best using bang for buck.

There's not so much variety in 5spd clutches as in 6spd.
One way to go would be to go for a 6spd clutch flywheel combo if you want something stronger but the 6spd clutch/flywheel are bigger so more inertia.
Back in 2006, I had an Exedy hyper carbon single clutch flywheel combo, I believe it was for the FC.
Street use when younger, I gave it the bits, it took forever to warm up. Hot garbage. Kept it one year, until it gave up. 1k euros for 1 and some years.
Changed to oem exedy for 5spd transmission. Say 2008, now it's 2022. It's now at its last breath, 13 years, I'd say it's good value.

Yes, thats what I'm wondering, mine gave up last drift session, but i dont entirely think that was the reason, the car is at 77k, and I'm pretty sure that was the factory clutch, so it's lasted, I don't think the drifting was entirely to blame for it's failure.

if you haven't done any major power mod like turbo or supercharger then an OE or Exedy OE-equivalent should be fine. I drag-style drop-clutched the 6-spd clutch at 7000+ rpms plenty (competition many times every year, multiple years) and never had any issues.

There were some issues with the very early 2004 clutch disc centers coming apart long before they should have, but that was resolved for later years. There are likely some pics on here from way back in the day showing them.

That said, my experience is with dropping it hard. Sliding it instead is going to wear the disc material out quicker.

The thing is with the lower output Renesis engine having a higher torque rating isn't going to add any value or really help you any. It's just harder on your leg and the clutch system. So the 6-spd clutch advice is sound imo rather than a Stage Bazillion+1. Avoid eBay clutches too. Buy a good known brand from a reputable supplier.
